First, kudos to Mr. Berman. I have said some negative things in the past. I liked this article. I would like to see more like this.

Second, I think Jalen Rose's take on the Knicks resonates with my own expectations. Very logical and thought out. Love the concept of the "All Dark Alley" team. Definitely and enforcer component to this team. If I disagree with Rose regarding the 28 win over/under, its basically because I see no harm to the Knicks in tanking another year. Without knowing the thoughts of the front office, any over-28 bet is subject to the fat tails of the bell curve where the Knicks do not try to win more than 28. So, they would have to try hard and do well to win more than 28, but there are a number of scenarios where they purposefully fail to try (bad start, injury, etc...).

Nice article.

I couldn't have agreed more with Rose. I personally didn't like the plan b or c, but I could not disagree more with the 28 win projections.

I feel like for the money we spent this off season, 40 to 44 wins should be a goal. The 2 players that i'm looking to level up the most is Randle, and DSJ.

I think expectations are pretty low for many of the Knicks. Elfrid Payton is getting very little consideration. He is 25 and has shown a really solid skill set. Portis better than he has shown so far.

They will need to gel and we are relying on many young players. But this team looks like it has the toughness to let the young kids grow.

Agree with what Rose said. Only concern for me is the rotation. As Rose pointed out, might not be top heavy with stars, but its a deep team, talentwise. Believe that players having a good idea of their role one the team is essential if we want to see the Knicks make a run at the playoffs

I got why Fizdale was playing musical lineups last season. This upcoming season, the rotation needs to be less in flux. Not trying to fix something that isnt broke either. If Fizdale can do a good job of managing the rotation, we arent too snakebit by injuries, could see us sneaking into the playoffs.

This 40-44 win goal, how do you come up with that? Because we spend money? We had 9 players come off the payroll, there was money to spend. Its not like we paid on top of what we paid last year. Set some goal that is really might not be doable, and then you get to repost Rose article as "validation" as if "see, even rose though they'd win".

I took in part rose saying Nets are not that great and about where they were last year. KD is not playing and he don't say Kyrie not really an improvement over Russell.
I hope his assess meant is right. Don't matter, Im tuned in and will love it if we hit .500!

That the "money was there to spend" and "not on top of what we spent last year" is a straw man argument. The Knicks had $70 MILLION in cap space, most in the league, many GM's wet fantasy. You get to bring in players with that much gun powder, you don't get to use those crappy justifications for still sucking this year.

I'd be happy with us getting in the 35 win range this year. Anything more than that would suggest Fiz took a huge jump in coaching ability. I can't say he doesn't have it in him, but he did nothing to give me any confidence last season. The biggest thing is that we have a lot of young players. I'm happy with that, but I'm also realistic. These guys are going to be inconsistent and infuriating to watch. They'll also cost us a crap load of games.
Also, all the top teams in the East lost more than they brought in IMHO. You could make the case Boston got better bringing in Kemba and losing Kyrie/Rozier, but that remains to be seen. Horford was still a big a loss. And while Horford is a good player, he doesn't make up for Philly's loss of Butler. Brogdan's loss hurts Milwaukee. Toronto is clearly not the same.
The middle of the pack is slightly stronger tho. Indiana should be strong if Oladipo recovers at a decent rate. The Orlando, Miami Heat, Detroit, Nets are ahead of us. But a lot of those teams also have injury prone star players. That's all to say that we should be entertaining. Still bad, but good enough for me not to turn the TV off by halftime.
Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

For this team the ceiling for the guys we signed are not as high as our returning yoot core.
Realist projection to me is we did not gain the talent to double our win total unless they are the support to an emerging yooth. We spent money on role players, a lot of them and some good ones.
We all have our own definition of success. If the Rainman wants 44 wins and then if fall short be all “told ya” then its about him. The article was about nets perhaps being horizontal and Knicks might not be too far behind. The implications are Knicks to win “40plus”. Man, that would be great. But Just cuz we spend the money don’t mean it happens. Most of that was all one year or team option so its not like we made commitment. I’m looking for winning but thru development. Thats sustainable. Thats culture building. Maybe we are all aaying the same thing. Hard to say sometimes.
