Payton manages Trier’s over-dribbling by setting the pace. It’s so crazy it could work. RJ Barrett and Kevin Knox cameo in the backcourt. Barrett can handle the ball and sees the floor. Knox thinks he is Klay Thompson. Long live the BBC... the big backcourt.
Kevin Knox plays most of his minutes at the three. Ignas Brazdeikis has his back and wears the same digit that John Havlicek wore. Hondo never stopped running. The Braz is blue collar and will be adored in The Garden the moment he dives for a loose ball. His stroke is already pure. Once he sees the dark shooting background at MSG he will smile.
Julius Randle is New Zach Randolph. That is a good thing. ZBo and David Lee never played side by side. That could have been interesting.
The eyes wide open of Bobby Portis make us sentimental for Kurt Thomas’ crazy eyes. When the Knicks went small, Kurt played some center. Portis holds it down while Mitchell Robinson learns to stop slumping his shoulders and adds some old man strength.
Its all crazy.
actually they did. for all of preseason and then 5 or 6 regular season games till donnie pulled the trigger on zbo and crawful. and the most noteworthy thing was dlee and zbo had great chemistry together and were fantastic on their interior passing.
Big lesson for us all that move- sometimes you can get so fixated on big names that won't actually sign with you, you overlook the home talent.
D'Antoni was all about the three. Thats why he got rid of Randolph. Elite post player, amazing footwork, but MDA wanted to jack up threes all day, or have the bigs score in transition. You'd see players taking the worst contested shots, and D'Antoni would yell "Keep Shooting". Nothing wrong with emphasizing the 3, MDA did it like he was at Vegas.
MDA didnt try to get his players to take better shots, he just wanted to see volume. Thats where he lost me. Thought it might work in NY, but when I saw all the bad looks that were going unchallenged, knew this would not end well.
Give D'Antoni credit for trying to adapt to his players strengths. If they cant find a way to get the role players involved, not just spectating, dont see a trip to the Finals, but who knows.
