I believe it was the Dunc'd On Podcast crew that developed the term "Nene-Test". The concept of it is fairly simply: can a guy you recently signed to a contract be traded for value once he is eligible. As a rebuilding team, I'll define "value" as draft compensation. So of Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Reggie Bullock, Elfrid Payton and Taj Gibson, who could retrieve value for us at the trade deadline?

I think all ou signings are moveable with the exception of maybe Gibson.

Surprise, surprise; I have not been a fan of how we've handled free agency overall. In a vaccuum, I think the signings are fine as a talent proposition; but I am however, skeptical of their fit and ability to compliment the youth we have on this team that we were alleged to be developing. I feel this issue is compounded by the fact that we've signed these guys at the expense of deals that could have helped build more of an asset base for the inevitable Giannis 2021 sweepstakes. It'd be water-under-the-bridge though if these very same contracts could be used to either: (1) Give us draft compensation at some point during the lifespan of the contract and/or (2) Aid us in attracting Giannis to NYC. Unfortunately, I think the deal falls sort of either standard.

I do believe that they are moveable; any contract can theoretically be moved at the right price. But can they return tangible, practical value. And if so, which teams should/would have interest in these guys?

Most are basically 1 year deals so they are moveable and might fetch an asset. So despite all the negativity we did well. We signed some young upside players like Randle and Portis and Payton and some good veterans to help our young core. We retain flexibility for 2020 and 2021 and probably can get some assets back

They are very moveable. The team option for year 2 for everyone except Randle was a nice touch. Guys like Bullock, Ellington and Portis could fill a need for a team making a playoff run.

Assets? Maybe just Randle and Portis. But every team needs shooting. It's not inconceivable that a ten like 76ers giving us a second for Bulluck and Ellington.

Let's see how they perform as that has a lot to do with their trade value in the future. Ex - J.Randle for this contract could be a bust, a steal or even money depending on how he helps the team, his stats and intangibles...

I think Ellington is toast, which is why his free agency last year was so lukewarm and why he hardly got time with the Heat this season. I think Bullock is a good value proposition because his contract is manageable and can be dealt without a franchise having to gut a rotation player.

The only way I see Randle becoming an asset is if he develops into an all-star caliber player, which is possible with his talent-base but not with this team.

Maybe

What are the other trade options for Team X at the deadline? (Serviceable big men, the market has pretty much collapsed on them, which is why Randle is here in the first place)

What are the buyout options for Team X later in the season? (Can Player Y give you 50 percent of Portis but only at the vet minimum and is still disposable?)

What are the injury situations for Team X?

Lots of big men will be bargain in Tier 5 of Free Agency, meaning the demand for Portis/Randle/Gibson might totally collapse at the end of FA.

The other factor is a deep run playoff team has to send salary back. Do the Knicks want that salary that will be available?

Just very complex to say right now.

The season before (or before that, i forget), he was a crucial closer for the Heat- was playing very well for that team, especially in the 4Q
