I know Smith gets a lot of flak, but I believe he knows the game. Still, listening to his rant on First Take, he cant get past KD/Kyrie to the Nets. He said that Mitch shouldn't have been given heavy minutes in the second half of the season because Jordan is a friend of Durant, and Jordan didnt like getting benched.

Stephen A and Max Kellerman then start listing all the bad deals for injured players, while lamenting how the Knicks didnt sign two more. Knicks showed some self control for a change, and Smith wants them to make more expensive deals for older, injured players. Knicks are finally getting off that treadmill, and Stephen A. wants the Knicks to go right back to the way things were.

Smith is part of the issue not part of the solution. The cycle need to be broken and we are at that point now. I amy like all the signings but they are shorter smart deals

Calling him a clown is being very kind. He is an idiot.

I am no fan of Screaming A but I saw him last night and he was right... They sold the fanbase UFA signings that move the needle. We got a bunch of garbage. A. BUNCH. OF. GARBAGE. Windhorst is saying the past dictated the thoughts on Durant, like Amar'e. That pisses me off so much -- sounded EXACTLY like when we declined to trade for Lowry because Toronto wanted a first

Yup. It’s crazy. The reward far outweighed the risk. Durant is not Amar’e or Melo. He was worth waiting on.

I understand what you guys are saying. I would have been fine if we signed KD even with the high risk of an Achilles injury...but.... Not signing KD and signing players for 2 year contracts is the next best thing. Signing second tier max players like Kemba, Butler, Tobias and the like would be the wrong move.

Actually, signing 2nd tier max players would be the Knick move of the past.

This is a clear sign that the Knicks selling free agents on the glow of Madison Square Garden doesn't work anymore. We actually have to show we have a good system and culture now. You can't put deodorant on for 1 year to remove 20 years of stink. You have to take a shower first.....Clean house and start building a trust worthy FO, Coach and team. The Perry / Mills / Fitz experiment has 1 year under their belt. They swung hard for a homerun, missed....and now they are on 1st base.

Born in Brooklyn, Raised in Queens, Lives in Maryland. The future is bright, I'm a Knicks fan for life!

Blame Dolan for selling a big summer. Durant got hurt. If Dolan said that he didnt care, sign him anyway, that would have been the same old Dolan. Dont blame Perry/Mills for keeping their cool, and not trying to do too much, when plan A went south.

Windhorst was on First Take, said while the Knicks whiffed, their plan B is prudent, with an eye one the future. Said they were building a contender the same way Theo Epstein did with the Red Sox. Think like a small market team, develop players, then in a couple of years go after the big fish.

I’m not mad we didn’t get Kemba or Butler. I’m mad we didn’t offer Durant the max. That is close to unforgivable.

Are Smith's rants completely sincere or is it an act - or many some of both?

Definitely sincere. Maybe he screams to entertain but what he says is him.

I hear you, but I can see the reasoning of not offering the max for a superstar with an Achilles injury who will be 32 when he comes back. My son asked me when Kevin went down "Would I still sign Durant for the max?". My answer was idk. I can go either way. They went to Plan B and I am ok with that. The only thing I didn't like is the information coming out that they didn't want KD. Just keep quiet and go about your business. just your typical Dolan action I guess.

I agree. His act has made him the highest paid talking head. Good for him.

Well, Woj just reported that this is not a leaked info from MSG. The reason they/we didn't offer the max is because we were not in the hunt for KD's services. We never got to the point of offering the max.
