Thats a bit of a scary thought. If this is the true case, the Magic have added the most firepower in the east by FAR in the offseason.

Their starting line up has to be among the best in the east. 3 20 point scorers great defenders at every position, shotblocking space eaters and very solid rebounding.

After all that he went through, I find it very hard to believe he will ever be 100% again.

if hill participated in any charity exhibition may be a good indication of his return. i believe calvin, said grant is ready to ball this season. nevertheless, franchise, cutt and crew may have the energy to keep this team out of the basement. coach may be the weak link

Its interesting the way some will jump on a story like that and restore Hill to his former glory with the succession of disabling injuries when few seem to believe that Houston with the first injury of his career (exclsuive of the few minor tweaks causing him to miss about a game a year up to then). Remember when Penny was arguably the 2nd best player in the league and had injuries ( similar in severity to Hill) and it took him years to get back to a fraction of his former self when he again became a servicable everyday player.

Hill seems to be a decent guy and I wish him a full recovery enabling him to lead a normal but have to doubt he will every be the player he once was.

I think if you are battle planning against Orlando--you pencil in Grant Hill at SF right now. To dismiss a threat like Grant Hill is wrong. Do I personally expect him to be 40 minutes a night Grant Hill--no way--do i think realistically he can play a high quality 26-28 minutes like H2)? I think both guys can. EVERYONE will have reservations about Allan Grant Mcdyess Webber et al but different types of surgeries and healing processes work different on seperate people. The Grant Hill injury is very similar to Garrison Hearst who also lost 2 full seasons. So right now I expect the Magic's line up to look like

C- Cato
PF Howard
SF Hill
SG Mobley
PG Francis and that is as good as any team in the east.

They got Battie, Stacy Augman, Bogans, Jameer, Stevenson, Turkoglu, Pat Garrity on the bench too.....they have a solid team.

Orlando regardless if they have Hill or not will not be a cella dwella team.

Boston, Philly and Miami are all right there with the Knicks and they all play the same division.

It's gonna be a good entertaining season!!!

Miami isn't in our division anymore.

Is it as good as the Knicks in the east?

PG: Marbury vs Francis: Edge Knicks
SG: Mobley vs Houston and Crawford: Edge Knicks
SF: Hill vs TT: Edge Knicks--I'd rather have TT on my roster at this point in their careers
PF: Howard vs Sweetney and Kurt Thomas: Edge Magic, most likely (we've never seen Howard play an NBA game)
C: Cato and Battie vs Nazy and Baker: Edge Magic

Briggs, this is sketchy at best. Hill will be lucky to return to the kind of career Penny Hardaway made for himself. Lucky. His game was predicated on quickness, penetration, hops, shooting and passing. Everything but the shooting and passing figures to be gone. He's going to have a very very very tough time of it. Also, I would love to see Grant Hill try to guard Tim Thomas.

That said, I agree the Magic have good talent elsewhere and can threaten for the 6-8 seed if Howard is ready and Francis plays better.

Anyone who really thinks Grant Hill is going to have an impact on the NBA at any point in his career from this point on is allowing the anticipation of the offseason get to them.

Agreed about Orlando. But one thing you have to realize is that the divisions have changed and Miami and Orlando are now in the Southeast with Charlotte, Atlanta and Washington. The Knicks are in the Atlantic which is Boston, Philly, Toronto and New Jersey. While Boston and Philly may be good, it's still the worst division in the league and the Knicks should win it.

i wonder what your reaction would've been briggs if this article was about allan houston?

i hope hill returns and plays well, but until i see him in the lineup after the allstar break, this is nothing more than false hopes - like laydon and chaney with dice.

I doubt Hill will ever come back 100 %.He may have a good stretch here and there but I dont see him being as durable as he was before the injury when he really was 100%.

If Hill can be effective for 15 mpg (maybe two 7 or 8 minute stretches) for an entire 82 game season, that's probably more than the Magic could ask for.

Hill is not only coming off serious injury and multiple surgery rehab, but he is years older than he was, he'll be rust from not having played and the league has gotten younger and quicker while he's been out.

Hill will be a nice piece, but he's an upgrade by a factor of one or two over what we have in Penny.

Yeah sorry about that....I checked it later on today and realized I made that mistake.

Thanks for the correction.
