Many say Sweetney will be the Knicks savior, that he'll play a huge part in solving this team's frontcourt agony it experienced since the good old Ewing/Oak days and that with Marbury, Crawford, and Ariza, he will bring the Championship back to NY one day... But can you realistically expect that sort of contribution from a guy who stands 6'8 playing amongst taller opponents? What? You think he'll be as good as Sir Charles was? Or, Brand? What about Oakley? Could his entire season's stats line look like any of the below players'? (stats taken from the players' best yr)
Charles Barkley 25-12-0.8
Elton Brand 20-10-2.0
Zach Randolph 20-10-0.5
Carlos Boozer 15-11-0.7
Charles Oakley 14-13-0.4
Danny Fortson 11-11-0.2
Wrong! Stop dreamin'. He'll be more like Robert Traylor...

with over 33min per game he can easily average 11-12rebs

believe me

Shaq & Ben focus on other things like Scoring, blocking shots and playing great defense. Sweetney will be all about the rebounds, holding his own on defense against taller players and scoring Brand/LJ style around the basket.

I basically had nothing else to do, so I went back to boxscores since March. Sweets averaged 6 bounds in 16 mpg. In games where he averaged more than 20 min, he had 8 bounds in 23 min. 10 bound through the season is basically what I expect, but 12? Your guess is as good as mine, it all depends on how many minutes he's getting.

i think brand is an overstatement. Brand gets pretty much blocks, steals and is a pretty good defender, although still undersized. I see him as an LJ in new york without the "shooting range" and a better rebounder.

Hopefully in 8-10 years we can start calling players, "the next Michael Sweetney".

Actually Brand isn't really undersized. He's an inch shorter than the average PF, but he's heavier and has about 3 inches in reach more than most PFs.

As others have said, it all depends on how many minutes Sweetney gets. If Isiah can find a way to trade Kurt and get Mike around 30 mpg, then something like 12 ppg 10 rpg isn't out of the question. In a year or two however, I wouldn't be suprised to see Sweetney get around 15ppg and 12rpg if he gets the minutes. He is not going to put up anything more than 13 ppg this season because we have so many scoring options and he probably won't get over 30 mpg anyway, but his future definitely looks good so far.
