I think this is one of those trades that you have to wait in see how it turns out but, today, it's a win/win for both clubs.

The guys on the pod against the trade were acting like it’s the same old Knicks in regards to how they will spend the money in free agency. Later in the pod they talk about Melo and how successful his career was for having no star teammates in Denver and New York.

Easy narrative to link the “same old knicks” into a negative rant.
If results are what matter, and they do, then yes its all out there in the future. But I do commend the change in philosophy recently.
When we empowered Ewing too many times it was in fear and not to the health of the franchise. I’m ok with some but there is a limit and knicks crossed it with Ewing post Riley era.
NOt to say this is the same with KP as we really don’t know all of it. But on the surface you have an anemic injury prone diva whose physical dimensions defy durability asking for control of the franchise and won’t even be reasonable with a contract, or we’d be leveraged into a bad deal about to take even more control then Kudo’s to the Knicks for seizing the moment and moving forward with resolve.
Over and over you do the right things then good things happen. Final judgement is in the future.

At first I hated the trade but it was before I heard that no picks were attached. The Knicks tried going to the kings jazz and pelicans and they all said NO. So that shows me that other teams arent confident in his durability to give up any assets. Dallas I felt maybe were a bit more desperate. If KP somehow stays healthy then its a great trade for them but if he never reaches his potential then its great for us

They knew KP was not signing long term that is why they said no.

This is really a good summary in a single sentence (fragment). Really sets up why we did what we had to do.

I remember what KD said on the all star break
Essentially he was happy for KP got into a better situation with Luka
That sort of shows how he views the Knicks.

New York is going the Sixers route. Only with a few differences. In this case they traded their “Embiid”. And tanking rules are different now where I think all the bad teams have a pretty good shot at the first pick. I know they are hoping to become like the Sixers in two years but I don’t see it. I don’t believe for a second that Durant would come to a team that lost over 60 games.

I don't either. Plus the verdicts still out on Knox and Frank. Frank is one of the worst players in the NBA and Knox is a chucker who can't shoot. Dennis SMith Jr is interesting but is very 1 dimesnional. I see 2 legitimate NBA rotation players right now Mitch and Dotson. Trier is nothing more than a bigger Burke. A Spot bench player when you need some scoring. Basically everything is luck now. I just pray they don't do anything atupid this off-season if they strike out on Durant or Leoanrd. If I don't get 1 of those 2 I don't sign anyone. My fear is they gie max deals to Deangelo Russel and Deandre Jordan

Durant does not come to a team that loses 60 games, he comes to be part of a team that wins first year 50+.
He he does not see that youth does not improve, top 5 picks don’t ad value, a young dynamic coach, His Buddy Deandre, maybe Kyrie, and he himself does not make a difference then yes, he or any other free agent will not sign here.

I am wondering what KD could have said differently in that press conference. Was his goal to keep the media from asking those probing questions about his being linked to the Knicks or was it to praise Dallas?
In regards to the trade, Windhorst said this was a trade that gave the Knicks everything they wanted, cap relief, picks and a young potential star player. The conversation went on and a couple of the guys admitted that they would grade the trade differently if it was done by an organization that had a better history of having a functional front office. Bontempts went onto say that he was around the Knicks front office right after the trade and that the Knicks did not see KP as a franchise/max guy and that was ultimately why they traded him.
Bontempts also said gms around the league had told him they thought it would take three first round picks to move Lee and Hardaway.

Dont believe they could go that route if they wanted to. Would have to wait on a lot of injured players to get over their injuries. We also have two max slots, so there isnt a need to put the same emphasis that Philly has on the draft.

My guess is that mgmt is looking to Boston as the model for rebuilding the franchise. Bring in a a young coach, stockpile draft picks, leave room for an elite player or two. Mgmt is making the right moves so far, we'll see how we do in free agency, and the draft. More hopeful, than in previous years, regimes.

We got more for KP than:
-- Minny got for KG
-- Spurs got for Dennis Rodman
-- Bucks got for Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Who knows what if what we got turns out to be anything. But we did get an awful lot for a guy that's only really had two greats of basketball and is going to miss 1.5 seasons. I definitely wish we had gotten Booker and Markkanan instead of what we got but, hey, DSJ, cap space, and picks isn't a garbage offer

Lebron came to a team that lost just as many. Got Kyrie in the draft as a result of those losses. Got a third star in Kevin Love. Ended up winning a Championship. The blueprint is there.
