We've only traded away one more. But Phoenix can decide to use that pick in either 2005,6, or 7. Until they pick, we can't trade our pick in any of those years.

You can't trade draft picks in consecutive years. The earliest the Suns could take the pick would be 2006.

My understanding is also that the Suns don't get to *decide* when they take the pick. It's simply a lottery protected pick, meaning that the first year after 2005 in which the Knicks make the playoffs is the year the Suns get the pick.

I thought that the 2nd pick to phoenix was something like top-25 protected in 2006, and lotto protected a few years beyond that?

It is something like that, what I remember it top 25 protected and keeps getting lower each year until 2010 , it goes from 25 down to 22, etc... This is my understanding..
