for Howard Eisley and the Bulls pick next year. Buyout Eisley and sign Kevin Willis. This puts us in a real position to get an athletic frontcourt player next year without significantly changing the team. I dont see KT starting +if you sign Willis along with Sundov--you have

C-Nazr Willis Sundov

PF Sweetney Baker JYD

Baker can also move to 5--we really dont need KT--get some value for him while we still can--hes a guy who is on his last legs IMHO.

This would cut long term salary and would put us in the position to get a young athletic frontcourt player that we dont have to spend 100mm to acquire. I know Pheonix wants a C badly and without Shaq, KT playing alongside Amare is WAY WAY better than what they have now i.e jake voshkul and stephem hunter.

of course i want to do anything we can to win, but maintaining a focus of making the younger and more athletic in the frontcourt is a priority that--atleast to me trumps 1-2 wins. Put it this way--if you have to rely on KT for this specific team to win, you arent going very far. he fits much better in Pheonix because they have two real athletic guys in the frontcourt and KT can give his 13 points 8 rebounds and tough D--we dont have the right complimentary players for KT-we have no athletic frontcourt 4-5s

I'd be willing to do that trade at the end of this season (after we get KT's services this year) and right when we can use the pick

As for right now, I'd still do the deal because that pick could be a great pick. It would be taking a step backwards to take two steps forward later.

Phoenix has the Bulls #1 for next year? And not lottery-protected? When did they get that?

Briggs, I would do this trade in a second. The Bulls are going to be wretched this year. It would hurt my brain to take Howard Eisley back, but I agree Kurt doesn't seem to fit our style while he would help Phoenix a great deal.

They swapped picks this year: Phoenix 7 pick this year for the Bulls first rounder next year. That's how the Bulls got both the #3 and #7 this year.

It was a smart trade by the Bulls because this year's draft is much stronger than next years.

Oh yeah. As in Gordon and Deng. Thanks.

Really? Most people thought this year's draft was one of the weakest in recent history and that next year's will be stronger because many of the international players who pulled out of this one may enter the draft (with one year of work added to their games)

Yeah! the whole key to the deal is letting them have KT for Eisley RIGHT NOW. I would highly consider it if I were Pheonix--yes I lose that pick[but still have my own] and have so many young players as is, i really dont want to stockpile anymore--i get rid of dead weight for 2 years and bring in a legit frontcourt player that upgrades them substantially. KT has a solid 3 years left in him then he can be used as an expiring contract.

If we brought in Willis and dumped either eisley or norris in a buyout
that would give us 2 seven footers--one i know who can still play well for 10-15 minutes a night behind Nazr and gives JYD a solid back up role.

not a bad idea at all, but I though the suns were in cost cutting mode, if Kt contract is longer than eisley's then why would they do this?

Agreed! Good call.

Isiah should make this kind of trade before the training camp starts, but I'd be pleasantly surprised if he did. He's not looking to drafts to improve the team unfortunately. He should have traded KT last yr before his contract extension for a pick and a servicable player. As there were plenty of teams willing to trade down in the last draft, I for one think that he lost an opportunity to grab a quality rookie like Deng, Iguodala, or Al Jefferson. He was plain lucky that we got Ariza in the 2nd round. I want to see him go after possible high picks, damn it!!

(Sorry about the bitching but I'm still not sure why he signed Sundov and Brewer...? Why not just sign Willis or Keon Clark?)

...because no one can find Keon Clark (see the Keon article in another thread)...also how many times did Keon say in 2002 that he wouldn't play in a big city? He's never coming guys, and it's not a huge loss. He doesn't have the desire to play this game.

Also, as for the people asking why Isiah didn't try this trade last year: he did. Anyone remember the trade he almost pulled the trigger on of Kurt for Malik Rose and the Spurs #1? Also, Kurt was the centerpiece of the offers Isiah made to Atlanta, we just didn't have enough deals that went off the books last year to get it done (thanks again for waiving Travis Knight, Layden!).

Again, this is a good trade. I think Phoenix might be more willing to trade their own first round pick, rather than the Bulls, but if Isiah could haggle and get that Bulls pick the Knicks could get a quality player.

Briggs...I wanted Willis for a little over a month now...I think he would be a great signing and bring this team exactly what it needs at the 5 position....

As they say...great minds think alike!

no team is going to give up a lottery pick for Kurt Thomas fellas...nice idea, but it's just not going to happen...you'd do well to get a late 1st round pick for him...

& the contracts of Eisley & KT are a wash anyway, considering Eisley only has 2 years left on his deal as well.

this trade is more about timing. Wait for a team to surface that really needs KT. I could see a trade like this happening during camp. If Sweetney is really playing strong I think Zeke immediatly starts exploring these types of options.

Isiah doe not have to do anything with KT. He has a role here, and is playing it very smart to let the market come to him.

That is nice for a change. Isiah has done a nice job of parlaying our assets into more tradable ones. It has cost a fortune to do it, but thats not the fans cross to bare.

I do see a need to move K Thomas, but I also don't want a pick in next year's draft.

"The verdict is in for next year's incoming NBA class.

"At the top, it's the worst class I've ever seen," says Hoop Scoop recruiting analyst Clark Francis. "And I've been doing this for 20-some years. It's a bad class."

After a great 2004 class and what looks to be a spectacular class of 2006, 2005 seems to become lost somewhere in-between."

I say we play out the season, see what happens. Next year with T Thomas, M Norris, N Muhammed and P Hardaway becoming expiring contracts, I feel we can make a move for an Eddy Curry or Elton Brand.

Our core of Marbury, T Thomas, Crawford, Ariza, Sweetney will be under 30 next year, will have had some time together, and we can see what we will need to take us to another level.

I think we have plenty of guys who can play PF. The question is, has Nazy improved enough to play C. If so, then Kurt is more tradeable. As of right now, Kurt still guards opposing centers better than anyone else on our roster and he guards most of them fine (just not the really big ones like Shaq and Big Z)

On a scale of 1-10 I think the urgency to trade K.T is about a 2 because we don't know how our other PF/C will perform. To think that he won't work in our system is absurd because every once in a while we will still have to go to the inevitable half-court offense (And K.T fits perfectly in this type of offense). I think his only obvious replacement would be Vin Baker so I hope he improves alot. Sweetney at this stage doesn't have the 10-15 ft shot like K.T, but Vin does when healthy. Now, am I right to say that these trade proposals are based on the speculation that our other front-court players are healthy and offer a solid contribution, or is this a "no matter what" type trade scenario?
