If he doesnt help the team at least we have someone else to give fouls when we play the heat and other teams with poor FT shooting big men.

"The Knicks hope Bateer would be adapted to the their rhythms as soon as possible, and we hope Bateer could be given more time to play".

Nice. Get them rhythms down son.

I smell "marketing" here. i wonder how much the knicks could earn from Bateer's NY Knick jersey sales in China and elsewhere... i mean he's been the starting C for Chinese national team for the past 8 yrs (i think). If he can play half-decent, income from jersey sales, TV rights, and incresed ticket sales, etc, would mean a lot to Layden.

It's a one year contract? I guess that means we have 16 players w/guaranteed contracts. Either a trade is on the way or someone is going to get waived/bought out

I never read anywhere that Sundov, Brewer or Bateer has a guaranteed deal. Either way, they'll probably bring those three guys to camp and cut whoever looks the worst and keep whoever looks the best.

The only other possible explanation is a buy-out for Shan. I don't think Kurt is getting traded before the season. Not at this rate.

I know nothing about what kind of player Bateer is, but there are a couple of guys that can not only make the roster, they can make an impact on this rotation.

Brewer: Artest wont spot talking about what a good defender and athlete he is, and can defend both guard spots.

Ariza: 6'8, 7'2 wingspan and all around good fundamentals. Long and athletic... two words that didnt go with the Knicks for a long time

Sundov: When you have one guard that can attack the basket and plays a jump shooting big is a nice asset. We have two of those guards.

I think there are a lot of openings and minutes to be had on this team. I think PG, SF are the only locks. I think C is Nazr's job to lose, but I think you will see healthy competition at PF for minutes and SG also has a lot of possibilities.

This is probably the most exciting preseason in 15 years, because it matters.

actually seems like a good fit.

Anyone think Moochie and Shandon are on this team when the regular season starts?

I like that move. That kid played under the tenure of Lenny, and he is the one that urged Isiah to make that move. I have a feeling that two players will be D.Xed very soon. Look for Anderson and either Moochie or Kurt to be goone

i would be doing cartwheels if both those guys were gone by opening day...if KT has to go w/them, that's fine also.

Isiah replacing Ariza for Shandon? HELL YES.
Isiah replacing Bremer for Moochie? DEFINITELY.
Isiah replacing JYD for KT? that's fine since Sweetney now gets a chance to start games & show what he's all about.

Yeah....no one has ever said officially that the contracts of Ariza, Brewer, Sundov or Bateer are guarenteed...so roster spots shouldn't be a worry right now.

I wouldn't really read too much into this. My guess is Isiah knows how we need a big man here, so he brings in 2 prospects for training camp in Sundov and Bateer.
I'd be surprised if either one of them are with us in November, but who knows, maybe they'll be impressive in the coming weeks.

Well clearly Keon would have been 10 X a better signing if he was still available but if you're looking at giving an additional 6 fouls to shaq then this is the guy.

The guys just snail slow, He has some good fundamentals and hes way better than Dudley IMO.
However he doesn't have any speed and needs bust his ass off to become an Ike Austin type player in his prime.

The guy is 31 yrs old. This maybe his final contract offer to play in the NBA so it's either make or break.

Exactly....I think he has some skills. He dosen't look like a center though. His body reminds me of Jason Collier of the Atlanta Hawks.

Isiah wouldn't just sign guys just to have 6 extra fouls.

Another think why do you guys care if Bateer's contract is guranteed? It's a minimum contract....who cares if it's guranteed?

At least this training camp looks to be interestingly compeditive.

I believe his bday is 11/75, so he's actually 28 right now, 29 by year's end.

He's not the best, but I think he can contribute a few minutes a game. Maybe he can learn to muscle in for some rebounds and baskets.
