Timmy, Penny and Nazr will be free agents....

Houston will be 35 in his last year....Shandon will also be in his last year.

Trevor Ariza will be 21 with 2 years pro experience.....also in his free agent year.....most likely a restricted free agent.

The plan is set already to roll with Timmy and Penny and then when Ariza is 21 give him the reigns at small forward with Marbs and Crawford.....29 and 26 respectively.

I could deal with that. I got some high expectations on Trevor Ariza. He could very well become the Scottie Pippen type especially having to go the way of the TrailBlazer(O'neal, Zack, Woods, Outlaw, Telflair all had to or are currently paying dues).

I can see the future and it is good.

By the way Sweetney will also be only 24.

TT and Penny will have expiring contracts at the end of the season. That makes them extremely tradable during the next off season. Penny will almost definitely be traded then. If TT somehow manages to step up his game, he could become part of the long term core.

Yo Rich check this out: Eddy Curry will be a free agent the same year all this is happening....

Isiah could work out a cap relief deal that could free up some space for Curry and the Knicks could look like this in the 2005-07 season.

Sweetney
Ariza
Curry
Marbs
Crawford

Are you moist yet? I know I am.

Unless hoopshype is wrong, his contract is for only this season

Actually, it's one year with a team option for year two. We're both right...kinda...

That article doesn't help clear anything up. Hoopshype would have included the team option in the 2nd year if there was a team option. Here is what the article you cited said:
"The Knicks signed their second-round pick Trevor Ariza of UCLA to a one-year guaranteed deal at the league minimum with a team option."
It doesn't say the 2nd year is a team option. It's actually vague about what the option is. But I don't know how a team over the cap could sign a player to more than 1 yr league min contract without using the MLE or LLE (unless the player was a FIRST round draft pick). Maybe someone can clarify this.

You're allowed to sign your draft pick to a rookie deal. Also, what would the team option be for if not a second year? Is there some other kind of option they could ask for, man?

Also, Hoopshype is not infallable. Their contract information is not always up to date. For instance, until Isiah revealed that Moochie's final year in his deal was a team option, Hoopshype didn't have that information. Hoopshype isn't the only source, though it is a great one...

Of course hoopshype isn't infallable. The question is, which source is more reliable: Hoopshype or a NY Post article?

Really? That's good if correct. I wish we had him for three years and had his bird rights though. Can you paste the link for realgm salaries? (I'm not challenging your statement; I'm just looking through realgm and I can't find where it states players' salaries, but I'd like to have a second source--other than just hoopshype--to look up players' salaries.)

I may be wrong about this, but I thought the deal was that teams can't sign players to longer than two years if they're second round picks. That's what happened with Arenas and others. I think they're going to try to change it in the upcoming CBA bargaining.

We are assuming Azira is now a starter in 3 years?

With no bird rights, if he is legit he gets traded.

Can Isiah extend him in before his deal is up? Say give him some exemption money?

Layden signed Lampe for 3 years.

Layden dipped into the MLE to do that, though. GMs could have done that with guys like Arenas and Ariza, but it's usually considered risky to use the MLE on a player who wasn't attractive enough to make it into the first round.

What Isiah should have done: In hindsight, Isiah should have left Ariza unsigned until he knew what he was doing with the MLE. He was probably saving it for Dampier, but once Dampier went to Dallas, Isiah used $3.4 mil on Baker. If Isiah hadn't already given Ariza a 2 yr league min deal, he could have used the remaining money (or some of the remaining money) of the MLE to sign Ariza to a 3 year deal and have his Bird rights. Oh well. I hope Isiah is able to keep Ariza in the system if Ariza proves to be a good player. I hope we can avoid what happened with Arenas.

you guys are waaaay ahead of yourselves.
1) Ariza has a long way to go before you worried about losing him for $10mm like Arenas. Even if he has that kind of talent its a different situation.
2) Ariza has Penny, TT, Crawford, Shandon, Houston... at least 2-3 guys in front of him at both the 2 and 3. Arenas joined a bad team with minutes for the taking.
3) There are many things we can do if he's that good. We can extend him next year after picking up his team option. We can NOT pick up his team option, then resign him w/ the MLE as a FA.
4) Layden is gone. People want to play here. Ariza is a good looking kid. Everyone knows the KNicks overpay, eventually, so staying here is in his best interest. Plus a good looking high flying dunking 20 year old like Ariza will probably get some interesting endorsement opportunities, especially if the Knicks are good and he's got a role in that.

I love you guys but your worried about losing a 2nd round pick that hasnt played yet.

nicely put fishmike, and on the arenas situation, I really think it would have been in his and GS best interest for him to stay in golden state.. They had a nice young core there.. I am confident IT will not let a talent like ariza slip through his hands.. I am drinking the kool aid... those days are over....

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN!!!! WHOA.... LOL...
