Saw some speculation that Dallas would trade Wesley Matthews expiring contract for Hardaway. With KP out Timmy has been our best player this season. Also think despite being out last game and not playing well in previous game that his value is at its highest. His leg issues have been concerning as well.

This will enable C.Lee to start and drive his value up.

Trading both Hardaway & Lee will free up a whole lot of $ with our young core (including KP) all coming back.

You had me at "expiring". Is there a link to rumor? Like Timmy. Did not like the price paid but thought he was proving it was not as bad as I originally thought. Question is, do we risk missing out on FA, as usual, and get stuck with KP left by himself with a bunch of young assets. Tough call and risky. Think KP will wait and see who we bring on. Not saying that if we keep Timmy it will make KP stay but gotta think if he is stuck with a bunch of young players it will make KPs decision to go elsewhere a bit easier. Will be interesting to see how Knicks are affected by KPs impending FA.

I think I saw it on twitter but it might have been Knicks Reddit. A guy that works for a tv station in Dallas tweeted that he has a friend in the mags front office that told him it was almost a done deal. In his version I think the Knicks were getting a 2nd rounder from the mavs.

I like Timmy but I would do this. We clearly are not good enough to compete for a playoff spot now so I think the FO needs to make the tough decision by choosing to go full steam ahead towards Zion while also neutralizing the effects of Noahs stretched contract. I actually feel that Timmy is playing well enough to yield a mid first round pick and I would rather see if we can take a stab at doing that but I am not a GM so what do I know?

Open concept Free agent is always better than the player you have.
So the question is who for the money can be signed. We get two max players, keep KP, draft Zion?
Trade KP and a future no. 1 for Davis?..........The delicious "What ifs" are better than the reality of "Timmy".
But are we just trying to make ourselves feel good about something?

I've been pushing that deal since last seasons trade deadline. But I can't see Dallas doing it without seeing what they could net in FA first this off-season.

I think they land Vooch in the off season. Makes perfect sense for both.

Thinking about it. Vooch may be the most underrated FA this off season and is a realistic addition. He is an impact player that would make the Knicks better overall. But at the same time brings some risk given the way the game is played today. But he can hit 3s, rebound, pass, has good stls and blks for a big. Quality savy all around veteran big.

What I don't understand is why Dallas would want THJr?

perhaps they see him as a better sidekick to Luca than Dennis Smith Jr.
He has size and is a shooter.
They might not see a viable replacement for the money this summer that is better than Hardaway for the money. Maybe we see via draft there are good choices, Trier and allows Frank to perhaps grow into a role.

Im trying to think how cap space does us. Do we think there is a chance to land Durant AND Thompson for KP?

As the beginning of the year showed, the guy is a high level scorer. When hot he is as hard to stop as most All Stars. Of course, we have seen issues with consistency but only of late. And coincidently, during span with burke and Trier out. Also, if you watch the Mavs, Matheews was the type of player to spark the offense off the bench in recent years. He has not been anywhere near that this year. Think it would be a good upgrade for them. For us, could be risky if Timmy continues to climb and we miss out on FA.

we do need to trade either tim jr or Lee, not so much for a big name FA, but to re-sign whichever of the young players earn it- Mud or Vonleh, Burke, Kornet. I wouldn't trade Tim AND Lee, however, as I think we need some sort of veteran presence for next year.

THJ does a lot of good things and would benefit NOT being the featured scorer. He's an excellent ball mover and would look great offensively next to LD. I guess the question is what does Dallas do with the massive cap space they are going to have next year? They are paying THjr 2/$40mm after this year. Is that worth it? Might be.

Given Tim's contract aren't trade that lets us get rid of it fir an expiring is a no brainer.

He is shooting really well in transition/trailing threes. Would do better with other offense around him (right now he's the focal point). He has Deandre (not Enes) playing D behind him...

I like THJ and his spirt, and that he likes playing here.

I also don't see us as a viable destination for top FA next year -- we're too far away from being contenders, lot of open questions about whether we'll magically get our act together in the FO or on the court. Clearing cap space feels like the LBJ debacle

Having said all of this, I would much prefer to move C.Lee. I can see him thriving in Dallas, stretching the floor and complementing some of their other scorers (and he doesn't need the usage% THJ does)

Clee might be the other shoe to drop. Do that and trade Hardaway you have room for two max contracts next year

To me moving Hardaway is more about Dotson and Trier. Having them in the wing allows the Knicks to use that cap space for other needs and balance the roster even if it isn't a star player to balance the roster.

Mavs only have 50mil in contract going into the off season. And that's if Powell doesn't opt out for a long term deal. Or if Barnes doesn't work it out for a long term deal but less money in the first year. Even if they add Hardaway Jr they will only have about 70mil in contracts. Cap expects to be 101mil.

They would have to feel they can get this upgrade now and make a playoff push while still having cap space to net another stud (Vooch or Boogie) over chasing after the Durant, Kwahi, Klay types.

It's a troll tweet.

Fake name and the guy claims he works for KUVN, which is a Univision affiliate in Dallas. I am sure Dallas Univision has inside info.

This is truly almost as bad as the Noah contract.

We need some sort of quotient/scale to measure contracts. THJr might be bad, but he's actually contributed to wins.
Noah's contract was epic badness. Eddy Curry-type bad.
