So...next year there will be a new collective bargaining agreement. With all of the big stars demanding trades, overpaid players, etc the current one needs improvement. What do you guys think would be some good ideas?

I'll start with...every contract (other than rookie ones) a player signs has a player option and team option after every year. So if a team is not happy or player is not happy it can be terminated by either side. If terminated (by either side) the bird rights are lost.

Thoughts?

I think then there would be too much switching of teams by players. The NBA markets the personalities on a given team, allowing tplayers to move so freely would destroy any hope of marketing a player as the cornerstone of a team, or at least make it harder.

I'm all for shortening the length of a contract to either 3 or 4 years max. I think that would lead to more competitive play around the league.

I think the salary cap is good, as is and if you did anything to change it, teams like Portland and the Knicks would only get worse and there would be too much difference between rich teams and teams that squeak by. I would hate to see the NBA turn into MLB where the Knicks would buy new superstars every year. It ruined my love of baseball, and I'm a Yankees fan.

I would love where one player per team could be cut at the end of the year once every two seasons and if their contract is 3 years or shorter. Then that player could be signed by another team, salary cap or not, at the rate or lower that they were cut. The cutting team would also have to compensate the player for last year of the contracts salary. Also the cutting team would have to have more than 12 players on their roster who make over 1 million (or some percentage of the salary cap).

It might seem somewhat unfair but it would create alot more interesting movement, allow the players to play for other teams if they are trapped in a large contract, and since it is not every season, if a team uses it one year, its a full two years before they could do it again. It will also open a space for a rookie or a young player who does not have a massive contract to get some playing time, or make a squad. It will also make alot more money for the players, since GM's can take a chance on a player and feel that somewhere down the line it might not be so bad.

This year we could cut Shandon Anderson, pay him 8 Million, and give ANY possible minutes he may get to T Ariza.

Also get rid of the second round. Just let undrafted players sign anywhere they would like for the summer.

Also no more 7 year contracts. 5 Years and the last year has to be either a team or player option.

Raise the minimums, raise the Salary Cap to a higher percentage, and allow a 4th player to be on IR.

players would never go for that because no contract is guaranteed.

what SHOULD happen in the new CBA that is reasonable to both sides

A contracts can only be 5 years in max

B a minimum age of 20 needs to be implemnted or finishing with what would be your freshmen clss in college

C teams keep rights to second round picks for three years

D teams have a leeway of 25% on trades instead of 15%

E luxury tax goes from 2-1 to 3-1 after you are 20mm over the cap threshold
