Personally I think Perry has been EXCELLENT since coming on board. He's totally upgraded the teams youth and athleticism. This is a completely different vibe since this new regime has taken over. Smarter moves and more Front Office synergy. I like it all. The drafts and acquisitions that Perry has made are all moving in the right direction. He's not even done yet.

Agreed...

If hezonja takes another step forward next yr then we probably just lose him after next season?

Why can we never get a team option?

I guess ifbhe excels then we can create more cap room and sign a max guy and then resign hezonja at a higher rate of 10-14mm per if he really proves something. The assumption is he loves nyc, fizdale and what we are building and wants to stay at that point if the money is right.

Because we're competing for players other teams want. I guess we can try to sign player with zero interest around the league and get team options.

They will have more money next year. Management wants a max guy though.

Anybody know if we would have his Bird Rights after next year?

Though if so that would require a cap hold in order to re-sign him after going over cap.

No, we don't have his Bird Rights. If he balls out we could try to resign him midseason or trade him at the deadline for an asset, assuming we're out of the race.

This Hezonja has upside
but will he be a difference maker? on rebuilding 4ever Knicks?

I am not sure, when guys are single dimensional and focus on offensive
I'm not sure where he fits .. when not a scorer?

LETs see:

well..its like having courtney lee younger version at half the price from a stats perspective. his defense is questionable, but then again so is CLee's

He really showed potential last year to put into prospective he averaged almost 10 pts a game at 22 years old on 44% from the field ... he’s less then a year older then rookie Mikal Bridges, some players just take time to learn the NBA game. I see Hezonja taking another big step next year.

Not sure about this...Do we know what kind of offers he got from other teams? Maybe he simply sees the Knicks as a better opportunity and was impressed by what Perry and Fizdale want to do.

I think your second comment about the signing was the right one.

NY is a great city for European players in terms of food, people, and culture. He also gets to be with a Knicks' franchise which seems to be going in a different direction than usual.

He also has ties to Perry who was with Orlando when they drafted him?

Gut feeling...if he plays well, Perry and he work out another contract.

A good opportunity for both the Knicks and Mario, IMO.

EnySpree: Can we agree to agree not to mention Phil Jackson and triangle for the rest of our lives?

Thumbs up on this deal. i see no downside. He has a good year with the Knicks i see him wanting to return to perry and fizdale with an uptrending young club welcoming an incoming porzingis and a #1.

5 coaches in 4 yrs.....he's looking for stability. If he's solid I'm sure he wouldn't mind signing with us if he's a good fit.

He's also been moved around playing 2 through 4, been in and out of the line up and rotation, and had to deal with having 20 plus minutes to single figures at times in his Magic career. Quite why they treated a high end draft pick in the manner they did is surprising because usually they get significant roles on rebuilding teams, and each year their role grows. For Hezonja that wasn't really the case, so maybe he can find a consistent opportunity here?

He showed flashes last season of potential that made him a high end pick. From what bits I saw he looked best at the 4 on the offensive end because he created mismatches. It also helped his shooting beyond the arc. On the defensive end he's a question mark but he's still worth taking a risk on

I like this signing. I liked him before he got drafted but what happens to defense.
I would rather we sign players who are already good defenders with flash of offense potential instead of players with ok offense and maybe flashes of good defense.

Wow, didn't think he'd agree to that contract offer. Worth a shot! I'm still concerned about our PF/C position though.
