He has the smoothness I like with his game. He at times comes off as a little slow. But he has a good body and length to shield defenders off. Plus his defense is strong so not like he can't guard to position. He also displays some nice craft where he just knows where he is going with the ball and is a step ahead.
He has a lot of potential as a 2 way player. Would love to add Him, Hutchinson & Johntay in a draft day haul. Rather than rely on one guy. https://vote.nba.com/en Vote for your Knicks.

I think if he gets back down to 202-203 he's going to be a hard nba guard. On top of it he has nba 1 at team defensive potential rebounds very well and can pass it. RIP Crushalot😞

It's a mix tape of dunks and jumpers, and some steals. Where's the passing? What makes Donovan Mitchell so good is his ability to read the defense and make the right play, which may be a drive or a shot, but it's not the only thing he does.
Rose is not the answer.

We got Trey, Frank, and Mudiay - let's focus on a SF or big man in this draft

I think Porzingis moves to the 5 soon enough and O'Quinn and maybe another cheap pickup fill the backup minutes at the 5 or times that KP slides to the 4. I think Fiz made it pretty clear the plan is to get faster, more athletic, and perimeter oriented going forward. |

Outside of KP, which big do you see staying long term on the Knicks? For me, not Kanter or KOQ or Noah. All 3 may be on the team next year but none are long term starters and may not be on team past their contracts. If he hasn't degraded to the point of Melo, I see Noah getting minutes next year. He clearly wants to be in NY. He is generally a decent 2-way big who has proven to be a good match with KP, although obviously he has flaws that prevent him from being a starting caliber big man. Still, i can see him backing up KP at center and sharing some court time with him as well. Just a hunch. |

Even if he comes back, we're still looking at a backup. Kanter while solid, doesn't cut it as a full-time starter and it makes sense to let him walk if we re-sign be KOQ. The idea of dropping about $30 million on backup centers isn't appealing, even if it's less than the amount what we're paying for backup centers now. The Noah era can't end soon enough. Carter and Jackson have the versatility to fill in at 4 or 5 interchangeably with KP. They would give the roster flexibility and hopefully, starter level talent at a cheap price. I'm not sure Bamba is as ready to contribute as the other two, but he's probably the guy with the highest upside that will be available around where we're drafting. The bigs in next year's class don't appear to be as talented as this year's crop, so I'd want to grab one now. The wing talent looks to be about the same next year, so we can always take a stab at it then. We're not a lottery big or wing away from being good anyway, so there's no need to force things. Of Mykal is the best player on board, the grab him. But if it's between Carter or either Bridges then I'm leaning Carter. Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right.

The knock on Carter is his foot speed, I don't think he fits in with how the Knicks want to play.
From http://www.nbadraft.net/players/wendell-carter Emphasis mine: Weaknesses: While he can explode up, he’s not much of a transition finisher. Has a solid vertical but is not much of a run and jump athlete. Sometimes the last player up the court … Isn’t very quick when reacting on defense and closing out to contest shooters … Post-game while sound, is still in early stages of development ... Needs to add more technique with his foot work, moving forward, to allow him more success when he doesn’t have a physical advantage … Tries to attack the set defense too often … Has a strong body but has a thick build that may add weight if he doesn’t emphasize staying in shape … One of the more ready players moving forward but lacks the upside some of the other big men in his class possess … May ultimately be a small 5 due to his lack of ideal foot speed ... While solid, he didn’t have a great set of All American games or practices. Didn’t separate himself among the other big men and had quiet performances overall … Rose is not the answer.

It was written before the college season was written. I think Carter anticipation and IQ helps him defend the perimeter OK. His bulk makes him a perfect next to KP and his body can definitely tighten up, which will likely add speed. He's got a burgeoning inside/outside game which could also complement KP's game. Now, if you're asking if I like Jackson. And Bamba better, I'd say yeah. But would I be surprised if Carter turned out better than those two? No. Always... always remember: Less is less.
