There was a lot in the press coming into this season that this was the plan .. but with KP injured, shoulďn't the focus shift to 2020?

Just seems more logical to me that that would be the case .. much easier path to create space then .. who is a realistic target in 2019 anyway? Kemba? Kyrie? Klay? King James? Some other free agent with a first name beginning with K? Kitchen Sink?

Don't k ow if that was ever officially the plan by management. But in 2020 we would have to start paying KP $30mil a yr. Which is why 2019 is the best shot to target FA's before KPs contract increase.

In 2019, assuming we don't extend KP, he'll have a cap hold of $17.1Mn. If we do offer KP an extension, which in all probability we will, then his cap hold will be $27Mn. Factoring in holds for 2 draft picks, Lance coming off the books, no free agent signings, minimum roster cap holds, and a cap of $108Mn, I have the Knick at $9Mn in cap space. Noah is on the books at $19.3Mn, Lee at $12.8Mn. 7 to 9 year vets are eligible for a max contract òf $30Mn - doable I guess but is that an attractive enough proposition to attract the top free agents or we selling the dream?
