Kind of bullshyt article knick fans love!
Got all the ingredients: Ex knick, has won before and would score a great contract! This is Larry, MDA and name that coach all over!

Do you know who the biggest surprise was? Riles!!! We all thought “showtime East” but he did the opposite! That’s why he succeeded! He did not bring a formula, he coached to what we had.

If Rivers were to bring along Mike Woodson as his associate coach, all the better fit. A Rivers-Woodson ticket would excite the despondent Knicks fan base a whole lot more than the current Hornacek-Kurt Rambis pairing.

Is this really the case? This doesn't register a chub for me. Would anyone else get excited by this move?

This article is absolute garbage. COMPLETE speculation without a single fact that either party is interested in the other. The Post should be ashamed to print that.

Oh, and the Knicks would have to give up a pick for the privilege. Please...

Not on these forums after we frame it this way, but the “Mark Jax” type of hype I can see play.
Post Boston run he would have been hyped.

I like the “brad Stevens” type but lets not forget like a rookie 19 year old, the first year or so is brutal. Stevens record year one was awful. He admitted he was not very good and had a lot to learn. Year two was better.
Atkinson was a good pick for Nets but also it was a low expectation long term view.
Phil had the culture aligned to do this with Kerr and Fish.
Article fuels the desire for Doc to get an extension and thus gives him a bit of leverage?

Let’s be real, open concept “Next Brad Stevens” is a hindsight type move. Malone, Denver coach is a good one but had bumps in his previous job in SAC. Coaches learn. We don’t like to admit that losing is part of the learning curve. At the same time you get a Kidd, Fish or Mark Jax you have an lack of previous coaching experience that a former player perhaps does not need but breeds arrogance?
To be fair then you have to consider the failed circumstances of Fish, Kidd and Jax and ascertain if they learned from it and moved on. Kidd’s arrogance seems to have permeated along two jobs now. Jax problems related to his divisive attitude toward others and not his coaching acumen. Fish’s problems are well documented among the UK.

I suppose my view then backs me into a corner to endorse Horny. Former player, was an assistant prior, PHX undoing was not really all on him and his NY experience is largely roster based. I know there Will always be the open concept that another coach would be “better” and in Knicks “Jeff is not a Mills/Perry guy”. Does that make Jeff a bad coach? If we like no name guys and want them to have time to learn, why then is Jeff tainted? Because we lived thru it vs. looking at greener pastures in hindsight? Was the first 30 games a master stroke of coaching? Schedule benefiting? Injury free run?
Maybe a little of everything?

Hell No!!! Doc is a terrible coach. That Celtics team was Thibs and his defense. The rest was straight talent. He totally destroyed the clippers for his son kind of crazy what he did to the clips.

We know that Berman just writes a ton of speculation, but honestly i don't mind it. All of his speculation is plausible and based on conversations he has with people around the league. It's a lot more interesting than the nonsense Isola puts out there.

Rivers lost the team when he was coach of the Magic, Lost the team as the coach of the Clippers, after so-so results for a solid playoff team.

No sweetheart deal for Garnett, and Rivers probably would have shown the same results in Boston.

Was a big fan of Doc in NY, but hiring him would feel like the second coming of Isiah Thomas. More of a divisive element, than a unifying one. Pass on Rivers and Blatt.

Would rather give a college coach like Shaka Smart a chance.

Hasnt done as well in Texas, but Id rather it be some new blood, not a retread who might not be too popular with FAs, given the Rivers family drama with the Clips.

Rivers needs to chill a bit. The clippers tenure was kinda stressful. Take a NBA gig. He was good on tv. Detach from the coaching world. He's had a long successful career.

The next coach of the Knicks should be Bobby Hurley. Need a coach that can deal with young players and coach them up. Son of a successful coach and was coached by coach K. In the mold of a Brad Stevens with a lot of fire.

I thought he was overrated before then but that really disqualifies him completely... I don't need another past-his-prime overpaid coach here that is going to do what's best for himself first and foremost

Ettore Messina gets my vote because I think he would do it

I would call Jay Wright first though and beg him to take the job

Ding! Ding! Ding!...If we are looking for the next great college coach who can flourish in the NBA, its Wright. He is one of the top 5 coaches in the NCAA...His player development is outstanding and his guys play for him....Wright would be number 1 on my list...

Jerry Stackhouse will be an NBA coach sometime soon. His name also came up for a potential knick coaching job.

Kevin Ollie would be another good option.

Rivers would be better suited for a veteran team that's ready to win...Same for Woodson.
