Clutchfans Troy Williams appreciation thread link. Sounds like they didn't want to let him go.

I like low risk moves like this, if it happens. Would be nice to find good role players without going through the cap.

His scouting report is almost similar to Dotson's.

The Knicks don't have a legit small fwd. This is the perfect place for him to make a name for himself. Hopefully he gets a shot

He’s an athletic kid that can finish above the rim! Just what this team lacks.

He blew up in the summer league but Houston's roster is stacked.
With a summer full of acquiring wings, will one young player be left in the dust for the Rockets?
Troy Williams is coming off an incredible Summer League performance that led him to a contract. He was the leader of the team and averaged over 20 points per game. He looked like he was in complete control and that the Summer League was not worth his time. Williams is ready for some real minutes.

However, the Rockets went wing crazy this summer. Does Troy Williams fit into their plans for this season? Who will he have to compete against for playing time?

Troy has the versatility to play in the D’Antoni offense, that’s for sure. He is an athletic freak who has a decent shot from deep. He can play anywhere from the 2 to the 4 on offense due to his 6’7 frame. Defensively, Williams can hold his own and even lock down the opposition at times.

He showed off his full range of skills in a game against the Phoenix Suns last season. With Harden out, Williams dropped 21 points and 6 makes from beyond the arc. Could he get some playing time this season? Let’s see who stands in his way.

P.J. Tucker
Tucker is the most likely candidate to receive most of the minutes at the backup small forward position. He is an overall better shooter and defender than Troy Williams and has plenty of NBA experience.

Tucker will be tasked with defending the best bench wing of the other team to start. He will also help Trevor Ariza out defensively by guarding the best forward at times. That is something that Troy Williams likely cannot do, so look for Tucker to not be overtaken by him.

Luc Mbah a Moute
Mbah a Moute is another new addition for the Rockets this summer. He will probably get most of his minutes at the backup power forward position, another place that Williams can play. Like Tucker, Luc can guard the best player on the court and that is why he will probably keep his minutes. Should Mbah a Moute get worse from 3 or his defense, though, maybe Troy can take some of his minutes.

Troy Williams is likely the odd man out on the roster of the Rockets. He will be the first player available to help should there be an injury, but I do not see him getting minutes at the beginning of the season. The bench unit currently looks like so: Harden or Paul/Gordon/Tucker/Mbah a Moute/Nene. That bench is incredible and Troy will get the opportunity to learn from some crafty veterans.

Good stuff. Thx for posting. Perry is certainly been consistent in snatching up kids with upside! Good pickups so far in his tenure.

I'd like Dotson (as well as all Knick players) to do well. Based on the minutes he's gotten thus far, Dotson is likely not quite ready for prime time.

Troy Williams already has a year of pro experience NBA/G-League in 2016-2017 over Dotson. After a pedestrian summer league in 2016, he dominated the summer leagues last summer. For what it's worth, he's 7 months younger than Dotson.

It would be insane if Troy had the same type of debut Burke, Mudiay, and Kornet had...

Who really expects Horny to play this guy over Lance? Lance shouldn't see the court again, Jack shouldn't either. Cut KOQ's minutes and start giving Kornet more of them. They should cut Jack but they won't. I bet Jack keeps starting or will be playing at least 10 wasted minutes every game. Horny doesn't care about a youth movement, he cares about his w/L record. Jerk
