Baron Davis the Latest to Request a Trade

In keeping with the recent trends, Baron Davis and his agent are demanding that the New Orleans Hornets trade the two-time All-Star guard to improve Davis' chances to win an NBA title.

"After talking with Baron and evaluating what the Hornets organization has been doing this offseason, I'm concerned with Baron's current status and his future with the team," Todd Ramasar, Davis' agent, told USA TODAY. "Baron was really disappointed with them losing the first round of the playoffs. I want to put him in the position where he can contend for a title or at least be in a position where he can reach the NBA Finals."

Davis, 25, is in the second year of a six-year, $85 million contract and the Hornets said that while there are some issues that need to be addressed, they will not trade him.

"We've got to straighten out some things," Hornets general manager Allan Bristow said but would not go into any details. "He's our franchise player. There's no possibility we'll trade him. We have no intention of even inquiring about trading Baron."

Davis didn't name a specific team he would like to play for but Ramasar said that his client would be a good fit with teams such as New York, the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami. L.A. is the destinaiton that would likely make the most sense, as he is from the area and attended UCLA and the Lakers could use a quality point guard and in Davis they would have one of the best in the entire league.

"I trust my agent," Davis said. "He has my best interests at heart. I'm just focused to play well in the NBA."

How about Baron for Vinsanity? Helps both teams, gives two unhappy superstars a new lease on life.

If you put 2 and 2 together, he obviously thinks NY has a better future than N.O. Very interesting! I don't think anyone would have thought that ten months ago, but now I'd agree with him

Nope; they're similar players but Baron is more injury prone.

im a huge marbury fan, but baron davis is younger, and had ridiculous numbers in the firs couple of month of the season. Baron is more athletic, bigger, and better 3pt shooter. But i be pretty upset if marbury was traded.

This is the BS I don't like, how is NY a good fit? we have steph and crawford... Now a davis and a future pick for Odom and butler makes sense....

When you can get a player like Davis, you MAKE him fit by moving players around.

we dont need baron davis--we need a C and an athletic back up G who can shoot who can play either 1-2 no not crawford--- a guy who can play in case h2o is messed up. the guy im looking at for next year is flip murray for the entire MLE if houston is truly broken down. i wish we wouldve bought the darn nets pick and drafted harrison--atleast we would have a legit 7-0 265 athletic C prospect who can really play ---need to use our number 1 pick on young athletic length

I wouldn't do davis for marbury. I don't think davis is a good distributor. Steph is a better fit for NY.

Just because Steph is a better distributor doesn't mean Baron Davis is a bad one. I think Baron is a fantastic playmaker even though he's one notch below Marbury in that area

For argument's sake, would Baron Davis be an upgrade or downgrade? My perception of him is that he's more explosive and quicker than Marbury; he's a bigger and tougher physical presence on the floor. I also consider him a better defender (elite steals guy) and rebounder-- I consider him an excellent triple-double threat.

I think Marbury is a better playmaker and a better free throw shooter... but these are things that have been refined by age and experience. Marbury is 2 years older...

So... what are the PG rankings like?

1. Marbury
2. Kidd
3. Baron Davis
4. Steve Francis
5. Cassell

6-10 (in some order):
Nash
Bibby
Billups
Andre Miller
Parker

Hmm...if a trade goes down, maybe we can latch ourselves into a 3 way, basically just supply fillers to make the trade work, and get back like picks or something. Kinda like Boston's role in the Rasheed trade last year.

how do you propose the Knicks could go about getting Baron unless they're willing to trade Marbury? unless you're saying you'd give up Jamal Crawford & Mike Sweetney, i don't see any other matches that would come close to being good enough to get a guy like Baron from NO...Tim Thomas won't get it done.

I never said it would happen. That's a different debate that I suspect you and I have the same opinion on anyway. My only statement was that we shouldn't lose interest in him because he wouldn't fit.

I think the rankings for PG and SG at the zone were based on last year. Right now, knowing how serious Kidd's knee injury and microfracture surgery were, it wouldn't make any sense to take him over Steph or Baron. (I wouldn't take him over the other people on that list either, knowing how badly previous NBA players have returned from microfracture surgery.)

I haven't seen him play yet, so for now i'll keep the rankings the same...he was better than Marbury in the playoffs last year on a bum knee...if he is a shadow of his former self this year, then sure, i would bump him down in the list.

I love Flip Murray but the Knicks don't need Flip now.....If Houston breaks down they have Penny and Ariza still on the bench.....

The back court is set forever....the Knicks got enough tradable players in the back court they can mix and match for years if they want.

David Harrison suprised me with his play. You don't have to see a player play too much to understand what he can do for your ball club. This guy is gonna be good......Indiana is lucky.

What can the Knicks do now but go to training camp with a clean slate and get to work.....this team is now the favorite to win their division.....that says alot because last season we were favorites to be a lottery team again.
