If he does, wow, he could be the starter at PF.

Of course he can. He's consistently lost weight since his freshman year of college. I don't see him suddenly stopping the improvement in his conditioning.

hahahaha... He'd be awesome as a 6'8" PG.

As a bigman, there's such a thing as being too bulky or too thin. Last year, Kurt Thomas lost a bit of weight in the off-season and IMHO he lost some of the "power" to his inside game... he struggled early in the season.

i also noticed the dropoff in his game. it sometimes looked like he was trying to push a wall.
i don't think it will be the same thing w/sweetney though, he's been concentrating on his bulk & and working to get stronger. in comparison to last year he looked ripped in summer league. in an interview in refrence to his conditioning he even said, "this ain't nothing, wait till' you see me at the begining of the season". sweets' a worker, and it will only get better playing against jyd and baker in the post.

It's easy to look like you've lost power if you playing with a dislocated, fractured finger in your shooting hand. If you lose weight by losing fat, you won't lose power. No good athlete ever said, "I wish I was fatter so I could be stronger"

actually, boxers who lose weight & move down in weight class often complain of loss of power in their punches because they have less weight to brace their punches against...it's all about leverage & knowing how to use your weight to one's advantage...Sweetney plays in a power position, so the loss in weight could help him in his endurance & mobility, but it could be a detriment to his power game.

as long as he still has the junk in the trunk he'll be alright. I don't think we'll ever have to worry about Sweetney becoming as rail thin as Kurt Thomas.

He's got a wide serena

and that is the key to him being unstroppable on the glass and hopefully in the post.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Sweetney put up a 180lbs as his max bench straight out of college?

That's a bit of an exaggeration. I've heard people call Tayshawn Prince or Marcus Camby rail thin, but I've never heard some extreme language to describe Kurt Thomas!

I didn't say you were wrong (although I think you are). All I said was you're the first person in Kurt's entire career that I have ever heard say that about him.

Bottom line is Sweetney is not losing power he is losing weight which makes his entire game stronger. There were brief flashes of altheticism from Sweets last year, his jumping is only going to get better, and his ability to rise up and dunk the ball around the basket will be a key to his sucess.

If he gets 30 min a game he will average 10 and 8 in his sleep. He just needs to work on his face up game and getting an offensive move. Hopefully Ewing really helped him mature during the summer when they went up against each other.....

The Knicks really should have brought Ewing in as an assistant coach, really what is acguire going to do...Pat could attempt to help Naz which may be impossible and would also accelerate Sweetney's group....With Isiah and Pat, they could really tutor the entire team, especially with the young talents, Steph, Craw, Ariza, Sweets.

That would be perfect...but watch us bring in another former, allstar PG.

Another? We don't have even one all-star PG who was hired to work with the players in a role like you're suggesting for Ewing or that Aguirre currently has.

I believe we have two, Lenny Wilkens, see Mookie, Alvin Williams, and any other team he has coached. He helps guards mature. And if you think Isiah isn't going to be working with Crawford and Marbury your crazy, these are his investments and his legacy as a gm, so i am sure he will be all over them

yea.. this is where having a hands on GM is a plus. This guy was a champ, and one of the leagues 50 best players. Nobody can dispute he's not one of the best that ever played.

He's come in and gotten two guards he can really mold into an image. One of the things those Det teams had was not only great defenders but guys that could just go and get the ball and put it back into Dumars, ISiah and Vinnie's hands for another shot. I think he sees Sweetney as one of those types

What I saw of his play at the sumer league games he is working on his inside game along with his defense, especialliy poking the ball away from the defender ala Horry. He is quicker on his feet from losing the baby fat, he does need to work on a nice jumper to keep the defense honest, but otherwise he looked much better than last yr.
