We have OQuinn. Noah. Willy. KP may be our best 5 once it gets into playoff basketball closing games matching up with teams in the clutch. Our PG is Jack.
Our starting SF is Lance Thomas. Or an undersized CLee.
We need to spend the 16$M on a guard and wing.
I like Kanter but his game is not impacting our wins the way his individual numbers look. He's your classic old school big who no longer fits as a starter on a contender or good playoff team. Think about how OKC used him off the bench, that's his role in today's league on a good team IMO.
We have to think about getting the team in 1-2 years good enough to match up with Boston and even compete with Golden State. I don't think Kanter is that starting 5 in the playoffs on a contender.
I'd spend the money on a wing and look for a PG upgrade for Jack.
Kanter is a luxury that you add once you have a core in place. We still need core players.
I don't get the Kanter hate. The recent game against Philadelphia Kanter actually outplayed Joel Embid. Can you imagine the Knicks going up against teams who have great big men like Embid without Kanter it would be a beatdown every time. Kanter gives the Knicks backbone, toughness.
I have been saying all along that one of the problems with Hornacek is that he continues to adjust to teams as opposed to forcing teams to adjust to the Knicks. This is silly. The Knicks have more than enough talent that they don't have to do this. For example when teams go small he panics and removes Kanter from the game. When teams go small this is precisely the time to have Kanter in the game and play bully ball.
In the post game press conference after the Dallas game, I was gratified to hear Hornacek finally admit that he would have to consider bullying teams when they go small. If he does go the bully ball route it would be long overdue.
