Nets: Mourning plans to return (yahoo.com)
News
Center Alonzo Mourning intends to play for the Nets this season, a source told the Bergen Record on Monday. Mourning could make an official announcement sometime this week. The seven-time All-Star announced his retirement after playing in 12 games last season because he needed to undergo a kidney transplant. He has three years remaining on a four-year, $22.6 million contract.

why? why can't people just get on with their lives? i don't care how much you love something, if you have other people that depend on you (wife, kids, family), then why do you put your selfish need to play basketball above their needs?

I wish he wouldnt play either.Im guessing, but I believe he wants to find out if having a new kidney will enable him to play again like he used to.

Sean Elliot said the difference between how he felt before and after the transplant was like "between night and day".But you guys are right,he is rich,he has a family,he had his share of awards,he should pack it in.I doubt he will until he finds out if a new kidney will change anything.

Good news as a Knick fan, I guess... This means that the Nets have more $$$ to pay and less cap room to work with once 'Zo either
a) has another health problem
b) realizes that 8 ppg and 3 rpg are not good enough starting numbers
I mean, I respect Alonzo as a great competitor against Ewing back in the day, but I love how he & Mutombo's buyout are screwing the Nets over.

Mourning is stupid. I sincerely doubt he will return as a player.

i think its quite honorable that hes returning, hes not stupid hes a soldier. Nobody had a problem with grant hill returning so why zo, i had some fond memories of this guy in the garden, and to beat him again in the garden would be so sweet.

I don't know how Zo is doing health wise, so I can't really say if this is a good move for him.

The reason why nobody had a problem with grant hill returning was because grant hill was coming back from ankle problems, alonzo has kidney trouble which is a lot more serious than bad ankles. Kidney trouble can lead to serious health problems and even death so i dont think its fair to say that no one had a problem with grant hill returning cause its two totally different stories

Good point. Also, dont forget, Grant Hill did not need a Ankle Transplant because both his ankles failed. Sorry about making light of a very serious situation but Mournings illness was life threatening which required him to pay a large amount of money to buy life through a kidney transplant.

mourning is a warrior, but he just needs to get over himself and consider himself a very fortunate guy for the life he has..

Yes, he is a warrior. If you want to applaud him for his valor, fine. I just don’t think that it should be basketball where you risk death and honor over life.
