• Pssst: At an informal workout the other day at Target Center, after Timberwolves rookie Rick Rickert made a nifty move to slip past his boyhood idol, Kevin Garnett of the Wolves, to score a basket, Garnett responded, without warning, by punching Rickert in the jaw.

A cut required seven stitches to close, and Rickert also suffered a chipped tooth. The astonished 6-10 Rickert didn't retaliate against the 7-foot NBA most valuable player, who also had unkind words for the former Gophers player. Apparently, the rookie wasn't supposed to score on the MVP. Rickert received his stitches at University of Minnesota Hospital.

Because the incident involved the Wolves' franchise player, the incident seemingly will make it even more difficult for Rickert to make the Wolves' final roster.

Wow, I'm surprised by Garnett. We don't know the full story, but I thought he would never do something like that. How good is Rickert? Is he worth signing instead of Keon Clark?

If that is all to it, Garnett is a major dick head!

Sign that boy up!

Garnett is a great talent no doubt, but does he not realize there are lots of players in high school, college and the pros whom must fight tooth and nail to earn even a chance? Has he lost touch with all the members on the planet. I realize 100million dollar contracts can be a real buzz, but damm!

Who knows, maybe there is a lot more to it, but I hate reading about these guys when they turn into Biytch divas.

Sounds like the rook may have disrespected him in some way,not just because he got around him. There is probably more to this.If there isnt its pretty sad.

i guess he had to take his frustration over getting sucker punched by Peeler out on somebody...why not pick on the rookie who just embarassed you on the court?

You'd think with the media and everything, this would be more embarrassing than just getting scored on once.

He's always come across as a team first player, who I thought would love to see a rookie make a good move on his team.

I admit it is disapointing, but there are so many stuffs of this kind in the league.

think about that, jordan was used to break players spirits in practice and off the court. KG just did the same thing in a less subtle way.

Bonn, I am not surprised at all by this. Yes, on the court, KG is a team player and wants to win badly. But listen to him on his television interviews. He is almost as dumb as Shaq. Only difference is that Garnett is a LOT MORE rambunctious. I always had the feeling Garnett was a dumby, but I KNEW he was that, AND a jerk, when he had that ESPN interview or whatever, when he basically publically told that everyone that HE deserves a lot more money than he is getting, even though he's still the highest paid player in the NBA, at the time, or something like that. He never came across as a nice person to me. He always got into fights with Wally S too, b/c he didn't play good defense in practice or something.

In the games, great player to play with, but I would still be on my toes, when around him, if he was on my team.

I must have missed ALOT of KG interviews. The few I did see he come off as a classy guy to me. Maybe not the brightest, as AF20 pointed out, but a good guy none the less.

Maybe that's why Marbury left this bonehead.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, don't we have ONLY the reporters take on this. How do we know what brought that on. For all we know, some very serious sheot may have been said between the 2. For all we know, Rickert may have severly violated. Who's to say that Rickert didn't pull a ....now I can't remember they guys name who caught Garnett with the two piece with a biscuit last season during the playoffs. It was a guy he used to play with. Anyhow, games and practices get heated (boy do I know.) and things jump off. Lets not crucify Garnette without knowing for sure. The reporter obviously had no explaination and made up one for the stories sake.
