I've always wanted to see monta Ellis in NY, and while yes he has lost a step... He's better than EVERY guard we have

Wouldn't mind having him on a vet min deal

No he's not. And why would the Knicks want a 32 year old guy on the downside of his career whose defense is awful and can't really shoot the 3?

This is an embarrassing thread man.

This ship sailed 5 years ago. He's like a version of JR smith that can't shoot.

Let it go.... the guy has tunnel vision, can't shoot, can't defend. He only had his athleticism..... and only used it to ISO score.
Rose is not the answer.

Monta Ellis is the opposite of what this team needs. I rather have our rookie play his minutes, than to watch Monta do his melo impersonation.

Yeah, what's the point of saying bye to Derrick Rose just to bring Ellis in. I'd consider other if Ellis could play SF, but he doesn't really provide anything we need.

Maybe too late for him Sessions and Jack are a much better fit to develop young guys. Pass first guys that can hit a spot-up jump shot

Rebuilding teams need bring in Vets who are totally in synch with the agenda is.
Generally a vet is either looking for a payday, PLaying time, or in our case is being paid to mentor someone.
Now, does that mean Monta is incapable of that? I don't know. Rose was really not into it. He is still young and wants to play.
Sessions and Jack have reputations as players that can communicate well and are signing to be a knick with a certain role.
The role is to help the team which includes helping that team with its investment in a 19 year old kid.
Maybe they talked with Monta, who was in his hot tub, with two girls and said "Phuch that babysitting shyt, you talking to Monta Phuching Ellis and you want me to babysit some french kid who got a silent "N"? Maybe, maybe not.

Which is probably the main reason Rondo wasn't targeted.

The last person I want to mentor my kid is Rondo. Dude has the talent and aptitude but lacks the ability to communicate.
Likey a bit on the spectrum.
Second to last is Marbury.

I think Rondo was targeted early on. Our cap situation was in flux and he received other concrete offers. Say what you want about Rondo, the guy can read the game and would've been a good stopgap
The problem with Ellis is that he's never been an adequate point guard to begin with. He's scorer. He kinda balked the onetime he was called on to be a mentor in Golden State and he had to be moved.

Ellis broke the unwritten "Code" of basically any industry.

I ran into this when I was in the NFL, but it's pretty much universal and is hyper realized in any closed off high stress environment. You don't mess with the owners family or the owner's interests.

Case in point, the NY Giants, the "granddaughters" are Rooney and Kate Mara, both actresses. Both aren't stunners but both aren't horrible looking either. Neither would likely be in the acting world without the Mara/Rooney name and Steve Tisch. Nepotism rules the world, no surprise to anyone here. Do you think the Rooney and Mara families want just anyone to marry those girls? Look at Jed York in SF, he married into ownership of the 49ers. He's actually pretty hated by his own organization and other owners. You think anyone in the Mara family wants Tiki Barber to show up, woo Kate Mara and try to marry her? ( She actually married another actor who has no interest in football)

Ellis violated the "code" within Warriors owner Joe Lacob's family circle. If Ellis was not a public figure, he'd likely be dead now. Guys like Jason Richardson and Delonte West have these problems to a lesser degree, but kid yourself not, lots of these dudes were a couple of inches away from getting dragged into a back alley and getting their throats slit.

There are a sea of jump offs and thots out there. Plenty who will guzzle down anyone they think they can lock down with a baby or a false harassment charge or some kind of extortion or blackmail. Why in the world would you want to start looking for problems by banging or trying to bang the wives, girlfriends, daughters, nieces, granddaughters, cousins , etc of your immediate inner circle of owners, coaches, fellow team mates and such?

Mark Cuban didn't care so much, not for a while.

You need to be an elite player to get away with stuff like this, and even elite players are not immune to the fallout of stuff like this.

Ellis is net negative player on the court. He's a net negative to the harmony and well being of the players and franchise "family" culture as well. Lance Thomas is actually a really mediocre player. He's a hard worker and I wish him the best, but he's really mediocre from a skill set perspective. But he's well liked and he knows how to politic. You can buy yourself a few more years in any sports league if you are on the edge, but you are well liked and you keep good harmony in the team dynamic. Do you think Udolis Haslem has anything left? He's shot as a player, but he's well liked and he knows how to work a room and he knows how to bring intangibles that the Heat like.

I recognize this is a concept that can be too foreign to guys who have never left the United States, but in other parts of the world, in other cultures, in other times, you messed with someone's wife or daughter, you got executed for it. Ellis, Richardson, guys like Tony Parker are lucky to even be alive. All Steve Nash has to do is find some diehard Canuck fan on his Twitter, bemoan getting cucked by Richardson and how hard it is for him, play it up, and in a few days, some stalker/freakshow/psychopath might walk up to Richardson in some mall, then put a 9mm to his head and blow his brains out. It would literally be that simple.

Don't mess with the owners family. Don't mess with other dude's wives. How hard is that?

Then again, if Ellis was that smart, he'd have worked on a three point shot and actually developed some defense.

The last thing this team needs is Ellis sending text pics of his junk to Hornaceks daughter and Ellis getting into a fistfight with Zinger over some Instagram jump off.

100%. We just took a step in the right direction. Let's not follow that with a few in the wrong direction.
