Would the Rockets want Moochie Norris back? With the Brewer signing, could Isiah have a deal lined up for Norris?

KT, Norris, and $3 million to the Rockets for Maurice Taylor and a draft pick works. The Rockets upgrade the PF position and basically get a free PG for a year (right now their only PG is Ward), and give up a pick that'll probably be in the 20s.

The Knicks get Taylor, more talented than Thomas on the offensive end, and with Sweetney now hopefully getting the bulk of minutes at the 4, Taylor is younger and only signed for another 3 seasons (vs. KT's 4).

I think the deal helps both teams, and it could be the final piece in Isiah's offseason.

Who knows, maybe IT just signed him b/c of the Pacers connection (Isiah coached him while with the Pacers) and he likes his potential.

PG: Marbury, Brewer
SG: Crawford, Houston
SF: TThomas, Penny, Ariza
PF: Sweetney, Taylor, JYD
C: Mohammed, Baker
IR: Shandon Anderson (can't they just buy this loser out?)

Van Gundy can't stand Moochie's game.

That won't happen until there are snowball fights in hell!

If the Rockets would feel that Kurt is the final piece of their championship puzzle then they would take on Moochie to get Kurt. Also they have Juwan Howard who's game is similar to Mo's so the trade makes sence and I'd do it. Unless we can use KT in a bigger trade with Tim Thomas to get say Ron Artest and Indy's garbage.

I think we can more for Kurt than a low draft pick and a garbage power forward.

We have to be creative though. I don't know where we can find talent, but we need someone we can develop into a defensive pressence at the 4 or 5.

I don't think a low 1st rounder does it.

Mo Tayler abused KT last year in 1 game i can remember...i do that trade in a heartbeat if you could get that 1st round pick.

Most late first round draft picks get waived as soon as their first NBA contract expires. No thanks. I don't know what game TMS is referring to, but KT is clearly a better player than MO Tayler. Taylor has never been a double double player like Kurt with abve average low-post defense.

1/21/03 game log: HOU beat NY, 86-71
Mo Taylor 36 min, 10-15 FG, .667, 1-3 FT, 2 TO, 3 PF, 5 rebounds, 21 points
Kurt Thomas 36 min, 3-12 FG, .250, 2-2 FT, 1 block, 5 PF, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 8 points

1/8/03 game log: HOU beat NY, 111-79
Mo Taylor 27 min, 5-9 FG, .556, 5-6 FT, 1 steal, 2 TO, 3 PF, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 15 points
Kurt Thomas 16 min, 1-7 FG, .143, 4-6 FT, 1 block, 3 TO, 4 PF, 2 rebounds, 6 points

CORRECTION: Mo abused Kurt in BOTH games they played last year.

& btw, KT has never averaged a double double in a season in his career either...KT is a better defensive PF & he rebounds & blocks shots better than Mo, but Mo is a better offensive PF, is younger, more athletic & has a low post game, something KT does not...so you can decide what you'd rather have...this team could use more defense, rebounds, shotblocking, & they also desperately need a low post scoring option as well as more youth & athleticism up front...to me, the key has ALWAYS been getting another 1st rounder, as i've said time & time again...you are dismissing a late 1st round pick as if it means little, meanwhile plenty of good NBA players were taken late in the 1st round that i would KILL to have on this team over KT anyday

not that I wouldn't do that trade- but

1- was Kurt's pinky hurting in Jan?

2- Didn't all the knicks, including Marbury, get outplayed position by position?

that said, I don't think I would mind Mo Taylor-

However, I imagine the rockets will use Juwan as a back up center as well as power forward- so having 2 good 4's isn't going to hurt them

but, before we trade KT- can someone tell me who is going to play pick and roll with Marbury and hit the open 12-15ft J with regularity?

KT is our only big capable of doing that

Good point. If we trade KT right now, we don't have a BIG player that can perform that task. We would be taking away one of Marbury's best trait.

I have a feeling that Zeke will probably trade Nazr and Tim Thomas for somebody like Artest. If Indy will bite. If not, he stands pat and wait for the trading dealine when he can move ending contracts like Penny and the like.

FYI, Mo Taylor can hit an open midrange jumper too...trading KT is not going to be the downfall of this team guys...it's important to acquire tradeable assets...another 1st round pick would achieve that...there aren't many takers for KT at this point in his career...if you can make that trade, you do it w/o looking back because you both get younger & more athletic as well as you get a 1st round pick for a solid PF who is likely not going to be factored into our future plans anyway...now that you have JYD & his defense along w/Sweetney & his rebounding at the PF position, i think you can afford to give up KT w/o losing much for next season.

If we trade away KT for Mo Taylor, then I want Houston to take Shandon with him. I don't care about the late first rounder.

New York trades: SF Shandon Anderson (7.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.5 apg in 24.6 minutes)
C Kurt Thomas (11.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.9 apg in 31.9 minutes)
New York receives: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
PF Jimmy Jackson (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SF Bostjan Nachbar (3.1 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 11.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -4.4 ppg, -4.4 rpg, and -1.3 apg.

Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
PF Jimmy Jackson (11.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.4 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SF Bostjan Nachbar (3.1 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 11.5 minutes)
Houston receives: SF Shandon Anderson (7.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.5 apg in 80 games)
C Kurt Thomas (11.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 1.9 apg in 80 games)
Change in team outlook: +4.4 ppg, +4.4 rpg, and +1.3 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Trade ID number 1894827

JVG loves overachievers and that is what Shandon does. This will give Jeff the perfect compliment for Yao and Tracy. KT can take on the task of guarding the other teams post player so Yao can patrol the middle and in the offensive side, he will have KT in the weakside for dump-offs for those wide open 15 footers. Tracy will be salivating for those pick-and-rolls.

now you're saying you aren't interested in a late 1st rounder, but expect the Rockets to give up their mid 1st round pick of a couple years ago along w/taking back our most heinous contract off our hands and a role player that JVG loves in Jimmy Jackson as well as give up Mo Taylor in the deal...

it seems alot of you overvalue Kurt Thomas by alot on this forum...you'd be lucky to get a late 1st round pick & a decent contract player for him at this point alone, much less get some other team to agree to take back Shandon Anderson's contract...if you could get it done, i'd be all over that deal, but i think the original trade idea is optimistic as it is.

No way the Rockets give up Jimmy Jackson and take Shandon Anderson, you're dreaming.

I think this is a coup for the Knicks. They get rid of Moochie, who's useless, and they improve their PF by getting younger, cheaper, and more offensive and they get a first rounder.

Bonn, you saying "most" late first roudners get waived after their contract could be the biggest exaggeration you've ever made.

Looking back at the 2002 draft, from picks 20-29, here were the players:
Kareem Rush, Qyntel Woods, Casey Jacobsen, Tayshaun Prince, Nenad Kristic, Frank Williams, John Salmons, Chris Jeffries, and Dan Dickau. Only Jeffries and Dickau have been huge disappointments, and guys like Dan Gadzuric, Flip Murray, and Carlos Boozer were taken early round 2.

In 2001, 20-20 were:
Brendan Haywood, Joe Forte, Jeryl Sasser, Brandon Armstrong, Raul Lopez, Gerald Wallace, Samuel Dalembert, Jamaal Tinsley, and Tony Parker, and early 2nd round picks were Gilbert Arenas, Memo Okur, and Earl Watson.

So there is definitely talent when you get to the end of the first/early second. KT's 31 and he has some big years coming up on that contract. If you don't deal him soon his window of trade opportunity will be gone.

Sure you can list *a few* good or even great players taken in the late first round or even in the 2nd round. But most don't last in the NBA beyond their first contract. It's an awful gamble to give up trade assets for. I wouldn't give up a more talented player for a less talented player (even if the difference was extremely minimal) if the only benefit was one late first round pick, whose career will most likely last about 3 years.

The success rate is about 7 out of 10 in the 20s, where you're getting these numbers that the guy will be a bust is beyond me.

Plus, we all hail Isiah for his talent eye. This, to me, seems like a much easier way to get a Center. Now they'd have two first rounders, they could take 1 or 2 and groom a guy this way, instead of banking on signing Shaq in 2020.

Define "success." I was referring to players who actually remain in the NBA after their first contract (which is 4 years). I'd love to see where you found that 70% of players drafted in the 20s last 5 or more years. More importantly, even if they do, nearly all are just role players anyway, which he have PLENTY of already.

So Bonn, what would you be expecting in return if Isiah were to trade the Knicks' 1st round pick in '05? i'm just curious as to why you think there is very little value in acquiring another 1st round pick. Does this mean you think the Knicks' 1st round pick next year isn't worth much either?

We don't need guys like Mo taylor.

Better keep some picks in the event this does not work as we think it might. This team has a chance to suck this year. The east teams are getting better, and IF we have problems, those picks will be higher than some think.

maybe you didn't get the point of the original trade idea...it was the Knicks getting another draft pick in the deal, not giving 1 up.

I thought we were talking about picks in the 20s? Does this question mean that you're now including the Knicks as one of the elite teams in the league or did you not realize we were talking about picks in the 20s?

My own view is that it's always nice to have a pick, but I wouldn't give up a better player than the one I was getting back (who plays the same position) if a late 1st rd pick was supposed to be the difference maker in the deal. Some GMs don't have the money to rebuild like the Knicks do and sadly (for their sake) *have* to rebuild through the draft, in which case a late 1st rd pick might be a nice throw in in a deal with them.
Would the Rockets do this?
