Interesting thought. We talk about Jordan, but rarely about his team. Even rarer is the effect of coach.
Kareem had Costello and Riley.
Russ had Auerbach.
Knicks had Holzman.
Timmy had Pop.
We don't talk much about Kerr because they were a 55 game winner season before he took over, but have to admit the team in three seasons is the best of this generation!
Lebron has not had a great coach.
Spoelstra is a good coach. Not established yet as above-mentioned. But this is in retrospect...
Great coach is one of the most important requirements for consistent contending.
Of course star-power can produce one-ups but this are rather exceptions which prove the rule.
Great GM, great organization, great Coach, great players, great dedicated patient fan base.
Many things need to come together for sport organization to contend for supremacy and it takes a lot of time.
I think the article is not to defend or under cut any one player, but THe bulls had the triangle, a system of player and its identity. That was forged by Jordans buy in to his coach. We tend to credit singularly Jordan and Russell without the so many variables of TEAM!
Im coming off as a lebron aplogist but Spo is not at the level of the others, but I think we discount the 7 trips to the finals in a row by Lebron a bit because he has lost finals and nothing counts like winning.
Was Russell (11) Greater then Wilt (2chips) or Kareem (6)? Hell no. Jerry West went to 7 finals, won just 1. "Loser"??
