Wish KP would stop making predictions, especially since they usually dont come true. Ewing did the same thing. Doesn't help.

Honestly there is more chance of him skipping a exit meeting then making the all star game. Another thing I could give a rats ass about the all star game.

They are his goals. He is allowed to state them. He has reason to believe it can happen. Don't get so annoyed by it. At least he has high expectations.

"So annoyed"? Wasn't close to a rant. He isnt setting goals, he's making predictions, talking trash, which he hasn't backed up with his play to this point. Less talk, more action.

Porzingis has been on point in other areas. KP should still try to play like a star before talking like one.

i kind of agree. Im a big KP fan but his attitude and arrogance has really reared its ugly head these last few months. Between skipping the exit meeting(unprofessional) and being humilitated by the model(hilarious) he seems like a completely different person from the humble exciting rookie he was. Im glad he has confidence in his future we definetly need that but it needs to be about the team. I cant help feeling that his brother has had a negative effect on him because he didnt do this stuff in his rookie year or even most of his second year

He just turned 22 a couple of weeks ago. He has handled NY, and an extremely dysfunctional situation pretty well so far. He shouldn't have said it but I think he has always been extremely confident while presenting as humble.

He must have picked up his love for the All Star game from Melo who would rather play in one than in a playoff game.

All star games come if you do the necessary things to win on a consistent basis. I would rather KP think on a team basis rather than individual accolades. To me All Star games are nothing more than a popularity contest.

You have to BELIEVE you're an All Star and prepare that way. I don't see anything wrong with his BELIEF in himself. Kid has the talent so WTF is the big deal. People talk like he doesn't have the talent to actually achieve his goal. It's up to KP. The sky is the limit for him.

Other ways to motivate yourself, other than writing checks your game hasn't yet been able to cash.

Announcements as such spike your "Q Rating" , i.e. the metric used to determine your marketability and brand worthiness as a "celebrity athlete" Many agents have marketing and spin media control firms who stage out the timing of press releases and how to let out information to the media about a players life.

A good example is the birth of a child by a pair of celebrities. That's worth a lot of money. The story, the photos, etc. Many celebrities will stand in one specific place, have photos taken, then ask privately to be left alone. Or they sell the photos to one specific newsrag or tabloid and then donate the money from the sale to charity.

While it's not generally in the public eye, Jay Z and Beyonce have a hard time finding elite security and private protection. Which should make zero sense given they are wealthy, famous and can afford the pick of the litter from retired law enforcement, retired military and contractors and heavily wired in long time professionals in the field. Everything they say and do in terms of public interaction and with the press is timed, managed and scripted. When you are that big, it's hard to hide anymore, and when you are that big, the things you do that send normal people to prison for life are impossible to hide anymore. And thus others around you have to weigh out the liability of being near you. Someone offering you millions doesn't mean much when you are knee deep in their messes.

Nothing Zinger or Melo say to the open press is just random.

That Melo has the entire weight of CAA and Leon Rose and basically a staff of writers and marketing gurus behind him and PR wizards and still manages to stay stupid thing after stupid thing in the press is pretty mind boggling.

Notice when LeBron James left Cleveland, he just kept saying dumb thing after dumb thing until he stopped talking period. People criticize Dan Gilbert. Who actually did a great job of hiding LBJ's general idiocy and douchebaggery to the press. Tom Cruise went " crazy" after he left his long time PR firm to let his relative/Scientology handlers handle his media.

These guys are reading off a page. Often they screw it up anyway. Sometimes I say on here, how stupid can these guys be not even understand the need to play basic team basketball. But maybe I am kidding myself as well, a lot of these guys truly are that stupid.

I wish that he would have aspirations of winning championships rather than making an All Star game.

I am sure he has those aspirations. It might be why he leaves in a couple of years.

KP wants to be GREAT! From everything we've seen from him that is clear. He's the face of his country in sports and he's leading his National Team! He's not just on the team. He's leading it!

As for this notion that he's likely to be leaving in a couple of years, I say that's BS! What's more likely is that KP and the other young players improve and grow together. KP has openly expressed wanting to stay in NY. After Phil left it seems he's repaired his relationship with the team. If KP is as good as he believes then the team will win and he'll be the face of the Knicks so why in hell would he leave?

The only thing which can stop KP from being great is injury.
But we cannot think about things we cannot control.
Playing in Europe he knows first hand that lone stars are not getting great results.
This is biggest lesson he should get watching Melo up-close.
In team sport greatness is a group thing.
Even bbal supper-humans like MJ, LeBron, Kobe needed another grates to come together to elevate the team and themselves to the top.
When KP will start making his teammates better and his team win all questions will be dropped.
And his first test is staring soon in Euro-cup.

I didn't say he would likely be leaving. But I don't think he was upset with just Phil and the only thing that changed with the coaching staff is KP's favorite coach was not retained. Hornacek has said a lot of positive things about KP in the press since Phil left and he was taken off the trading block. But we also know it was reported that Jeff yelled at KP more than other players on the team and that KP didn't like it. I think a lot more needs to be done to change and improve the things that caused the dysfunction last year. If the goal is to make KP the face of the franchise, do you try to fix things that caused him to skip his exit meeting with Phil, Jeff and Mills? Putting him on the trading block and not retaining his favorite coach had to have gotten things off to a bad start. I just don't think firing Phil fixes everything. I would feel better if some changes were made to the coaching staff. I think Rambis should be gone and Jeff probably should be gone. I also think it would help if Melo is gone but I think KP would like him to stay.
