When he said that other teams would be optimistic about this roster while in New York it's relegated to almost uselessness do to mismanagement. Hopefully this new team can do something about making the roster add up to more than the sum of it's parts.

That's why it called rebuild.
The house is so rotten that it is not reparable.
All rotten stuff should go into the dumpster.
The Melo situation is only affects how long rebuild will take and not even this much.
The tragedy is about Melo not about the Knicks.
It will be really sad to see him waste the time left from his carrier on work which has no use for him and for the Knicks.

He is talking out of two sides of his neck. If this roster is so good that every other team would feel optimistic then why for the past year have they been trashing Phil almost every show because of how bad the roster he put together is. You can not have it both ways. I ignore most of what they say about the Knicks on that show. They obviously have an agenda.

The roster has talent to be a playoff team if Melo showed leadership and KP improved.
But we've said that for a few years now.
Also what if they make the playoffs? They're a one and done type of team.

What we should be excited about is the young talent.

Kristaps Porzingis - 22 all-star caliber F/C
Willy Hernangomez - 22 starting caliber double double C/F
Frank Ntilikina - 18 youngest player in league, immense defensive potential at a critical position (PG)
Tim Hardaway Jr - 25 showed big progress last year as a primary wing scoring option. If Melo is traded, he should be able to get us 15-17 points a game.

Team has some real young talent. We need to be patient. It can work and be excitig. But it will be a couple more years and we need to trade Melo, and hold on to our own draft picks (If we trade them for an all-star, we need to make sure they have top 10 protections). Trading Melo will accomplish two things. One, it will allow the team to really get a look at what and how good Kristaps is. Same with Tim. We'll see how good both are. They would become our top 2 scorers. We need to give them that opportunity. Second, we will almost certainly be in the top 5-6 spots for a draft pick next year. We will get a really good lottery level talent to add to KP, Willy, Frank, Tim. We'll know for sure what KP/Willy can do together.

Keeping this roster in tact means a draft pick in the 10-12 range. We won't see Kristaps' true ability. Nor Timmy's. We will lose-lose in this scenario, I'm far more excited about our roster if we trade Melo than if we keep him.

Reality is not what Melo could be, the situation is what it is.
Its not about the last 7 years and his tenure in Denver, or the players that where traded away.
Its all in the past. The Melo we want is 33 and maybe its the fans who expected more. He was hyped as a star, he is a multi year all star and HOF bound.
But he was never the type of player we could call a savior. We didn't put a good enough ensemble around him.
Ok, blame fans, blame media, blame Dolan, blame Grunwald, Blame Walsh, blame Melo, blame Gallo, blame Phil, blame Rambis, blame La La, Blame Melo's marriage, blame MDA, Blame Lin, blame Jrod,......Whom ever. It don't matter anymore.

Phil is gone but we are still rebuilding. Give Mills a chance to facilitate this, and Perry the New basketball GM with no starphuchedness about him do his thing. Its a very prototypical front office now. No neophyte left over from another era (Grunwald and Layden), No starphuchs (Isiah and Phil) and no retread forced by the league guy (Donnie).

Mills is solid at president given his credentials and Perry as GM. They don't have that proven bonafide track record Knick fans prefer. You know, the kind where guys did well somewhere else and Dolan throws money at it and we expect the results to translate over? Yeah, that kind. No, this is Mills and Perry's time. They have the resources (picks) and some yoots to build on. Its their time!!

Melo's time has come and gone. It was a good idea, he is a good guy, big smile, lots of points. Time to move on.

Blame jrod? WTF you blaming me for? Dayum...

Call somebody out one time for deranged ABA love and suddenly you can be blamed for everything.

Seriously Nalod, you can say something mildly positive about Melo without mentioning me. I don't have copyrights or anything.
