Admitted Met fan here.

LAst season the Yanks were likable. Young team finding its way, etc.

Now, they are the evil empire again. That and the Met ownership's total mishandling of the team will make for a very long off season and 2018.

I'm fine with that. There is no team in the league that wouldn't go for the best, top-priced players if they could afford to.

Personally, I'm more than fine with that. I'd rather be The Evil Empire than the team that doubles down on the starting pitchers saving their roster flaws. How'd that work out last year for the Mets?

ST Louis wanted him. He didn't want them.
Stanton came cheap. THe contract is a monster and the guy is 28. Weird, he is 2 1/2 years older than Judge.

I don't like that he has an opt out after 2020, though. Unless he deteriorates, he likely will opt out.

Opt-Out is fine as long as Yanks don't re-up. They will have more than enough hitting with or without Stanton....and the younger core will be at much higher salaries at that time. Going to predict a lineup.....

Gardner
Judge
DiDi
Stanton
Bird
Sanchez
Hicks
Headley
2B (Torres when ready)

They could be poised to break the Team season HR record of 264 if they remain relatively healthy.

You think the Yankees would either trade a guy who is playing at an MVP level or let him walk?!

He has been in the Majors since age 20 and he is a bit injury prone. I think last year was the most games he ever played.
Perhaps season one he was called up so Im looking at his seasons after age 22.
He can opt out in three years.
We gave up Sterling for him and two prospects. If he walks, we still did good. Lets see how the next three years play out.
My take would be he plays for a shorter contract and more per. I don't see him lasting until age 38 at this level.
I'd almost fear he does not opt out.
THree years is a long time.

I hope this means they're clearing room for Todd Frazier.

Opt out is fine. worst case scenario is we have him for 3 prime years. Didnt give up anything of value. Anytime you are paying a 37, 38 yr old player 25 or so million per year I am sure history doesn't back that up.
Also Headley is gone Yeah!!!!

Unless he opts out in 2020 (at age 31) and they give him a 10 year mega deal rather than lose an MVP level player for nothing. A-Rod Part II! If the team is a WS contender, you really think they'll let an MVP just walk?

No way will they resign him to a 10 yr contract at age 31. Cashman learned from Arod, Cc and Ellsbury. They would have let Tanaka walk this yr if he opted out, no matter how well he pitched at the end.

I hope you're right! We'll probably find out in 3 years.

nest is Alex cobb and Michael Fulmer, either one will round out the starting rotation perfectly, then resign CC as a RP..we would be golden, although 2nd base is looking suspect, unless they think torres is ready for a FT job

Can Machado go to 2nd base? I still want Todd Frazier back. He had a similar WAR and OPS to Machado last year.

And where exactly do we plan on playing Stanton? Judge is a better right fielder.

As long as Gardner and Hicks are still on the roster, they're better outfield options too. I'm guessing Stanton would DH about 75% of the time.

I’m sure Stanton would just be so thrilled with that idea. A possible $275? Million dollar DH. Ohhhhh jolly.
