He's respected around the league and was the assistant GM for the Clips last year and will now do the same job for us.

Nice. It seems like positive things are happening in the front office.

The S.Perry and this G.Madkins signings are the start to changing the culture for the Knicks. We got two guys that are respected around the league running things for us.....oh and of course S.Mills.

It will be interesting to see if some of the lifetime tenured guys start to leave.

I suspect a couple may go. Only seems reasonable than with fresh blood coming in there would be someone moving out.

Guess those reports of Knicks not letting Griffin remove Houston as assistant GM were overblown.....wonder if he gets reassigned.

Glad to see front office at least taking shape

Gerald Madkins, one of Isiah Thomas' former top aides, is returning to the Knicks to serve as Scott Perry's assistant general manager, a source confirmed on Sunday.

Madkins, who served a similar role with the Los Angeles Clippers, becomes Perry's first hiring since being named Knicks general manager last week. ESPN first reported Madkins' hiring.

The move could mean either a diminished role for Clarence Gaines or quite possibly his removal from the organization. Neither would be surprising since Gaines was Phil Jackson's right hand man and his future with the club has been in question from the moment Jackson was fired as Knicks president last month.

According to a team source, Perry is also considering hiring another front office executive who would be responsible for managing the salary cap. Long-time Knicks executive Jamie Matthews is currently the Knicks "capologist."

Madkins, a former NBA player, was highly regarded during his first stint with the Knicks which began in 2003. The former UCLA guard was credited with advising Thomas to draft Trevor Ariza in the second round.

Ariza went on to win an NBA Championship with the Lakers and has carved out a solid career for himself. In fact, the Rockets have been unwilling to include Ariza in a potential deal for Carmelo Anthony.

yea thats great actually... sounds like the new blood coming in is the right flavor. I am not so down on the old regime guys like Mills/Houston. They strike me as salvageable smart guys who would probably benefit from some good leadership and example. Fingers crossed

If he had anything to do with drafting both Westbrook and Ibaka in the 2008 first round, it's a good hire, IMO.

Despite the IT connection. Which I find interesting that almost nobody's mentioning.

Why is it remotely interesting?

african americans holding the top 3 spots in the front office is pretty cool. can't be overlooked.

im not saying it'll help them do the job better or worse

but its pioneering

and from a PR perspective, it helps

should help us in recruiting, at least a little

Oh, I don't know bossman. Maybe I'm still scarred emotionally from trucks and interns and ugly sexual embarrassment lawsuits and Larry Brown running pressers while ordering his pre-practice McCafe's, having the commissioner stepping in to try and save Jimmie from himself, the shell hole crater that became the CBA...

i love that the knicks are trying to build a great front office... the knicks have more money than most teams. I'm glad they are focusing their time and $$$ to developing infrastructure, rather than just overpaying players as has been the case (though we accomplished that too).

if we have a better front office and better scouts than the other teams, it will go a long ways... but many miles to go before i start singing kumbayah

Mills is the guy hiring these guys. Mills did not promote H20 nor even kept him at his current position. As for the old guys in the basement "Warkentein" it will be interesting to see what becomes of them.
He came with melo and was at least mentioned many times as the "CAA GUY".

Fact is there is new blood and seems refreshing. If this is Mills creation, why then taint him as a problem when he might be the solution? He might have the final say but he is filling the place up with basketball people who will report to him, not Dolan.

Matthews was the other guy that Phil mentioned would run things while he 'mentored'.
