Steve Mills has Dolan's ear. He has been around long enough to understand what Dolan considers as success. Mills also wanted the opportunity to make the basketball decisions. For the Tim Hardaway Jr signing to happen on the eve of negotiations with Griffin, it means that Dolan had to sign off on the advice of Mills. Now for the hard part - the first signature move of the new General Manager will be the gift wrapping of Carmelo Anthony for Cleveland or Houston. If it is Cleveland, which I suspect is the first choice, Griffin brings an intimate understanding of the Cavs assets.

Kevin Love, Channing Frye and two players to be named later - for Carmelo Anthony. You heard it here first.

How does Kevin Love fit into our long-term plans of building around KP / Hernangomez / Frank / Hardaway Jr? K-Love makes $22-25M per year till 2019-20. No thanks... Melo is NOT a proven winner but I don't see why we would want to force this trade and bring back a player like Kevin Love, worsening our chances for a top lottery pick next year.

If it doesn't work, Love is an asset. I'm sure you could get a solid PG in a trade for him.

Or at least some youth and picks for Love

I don't know man the Knicks have a lot of trouble sticking to plans. Turnover makes sure no plan is executed.

If David Griffin wants to move Melo to Cleveland, which has more quality assets than Houston, Love must be a part of the deal due to salaries. Ain't no other way he gets it done. It is not so much about personal opinion. It is about which franchise Griffin is more familiar with.

If Griffin becomes GM look for him to give away Melo to the Cavs as a favor. Just like Grunwald did that huge favor of getting Bargnani from the Raptors for a well prized first rounder. Same with Griffin he will reward his former employer.

David Griffin Withdraws From Consideration For Knicks' GM Job
JUL 9, 2017 3:58 PM

David Griffin has withdrawn his name from the New York Knicks' general manager search.

Griffin was unable to come to agreement on the right role with the Knicks.

Griffin and the Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways after The Finals after they were unable to agree upon a new contract.

The Knicks are searching for a replacement for Phil Jackson, while Steve Mills is still expected to remain in a powerful role with the organization.

Ha ha!

Looks like Mills wants to have the final say over decisions, and wants to dictate the staff around the GM. Good luck on finding any credible candidate who'll settle for those conditions.

"In breaking off negotiations with the Knicks, Griffin exposed one of the longest running problems at the Garden. The perception around the league is that too many inside the organization are too consumed by surviving as opposed to winning."

Melo stays. Agony continues.

As long as he stays committed to youth and keeping the picks = I would rather have him call the shots. He will probably keep making ugly FA signings but I can look past that to keep the youth movement in focus.

I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only try to make them think - Socrates
