Today's line: 8-11, 4-7 3PT, 9REB, 4AST, 1STL, 20PTS and +21. Saw him today and he is bigger than I thought. What a potentially great 2nd rd get - not just a 3 and D guy, but a complete player. Maybe now we have four core pieces...KP, Willy, Frank, and Damyean. Moving Melo even more imperative now to give Dotson minutes needed to grow...
The new new core: Randle, RJ, IQ. Maybe Mitch. Future pick. Future trade. Future FA.

This is how you build a NEW CORE! Still a long way to go but Nitty and Dame are exactly what Phil set out to find. Skilled 2 Way Players!!! These young guys need to play and develop alongside each other. What we need is a LEGIT SF for the FUTURE!!!.

With what Dotson has shown though, I would be super hesitant to give up anything of real value for Smart (KOQ ok), as he's an undersized tweener and not the shooter that Dotson is...gives us even more options as we plot the future...

Dotson just needs to work on ball handling, but he looks like an elite shooter and solid defender. Team should try to sign him to a 3-4 year deal. We have some good young pieces. Hopefully management will stand pat and give the young guys playing time. Do a lot of losing while giving the kids experience and then hopefully get another top 10 pick next year.

yeah, he's the only one on the summer league roster that that looks like a legit NBA player. One that could get legit minutes and actually have an impact.

OK....I thought from looking at overseas footage, my game was similar to Frank......

But looking at Dotson, it's like looking at me.....Handle wasn't the sharpest, but jumper was money.....

True. Did not focus on his defensive play. Hope that is similar as well.

He will need to add dribble penetration, but I am very happy with what he has shown so far. I how ghee cra CBS the rotation early. I am interested to see what of anything we do with Lee

He looks like a really good second round pick
Said it from start he can be our backup 2 and that's why we can let Holiday go

Could we be this bold to start on opening night

Willy
KP
Melo
Dotson
Baker/Ntilikina

With Melo/KP you will be competitive
If Dotson and Baker or Ntili play D we may be a little better on D

I haven't seen it either, but I can tell he's not going to be worst than Lee.....or Holiday. He has some guns and enough agility to see he has some lateral quickness. Whats interesting was his after game interview, where he said knicks coaches told him to focus on defensive improvements. So that may be his weakness....But that's a weakness for over 80% of NBA guards. Todays players do not focus must of their energy on defense.

I have a feeling this kid is a little different and more well rounded.

Question....If these 2nd rounders turn out to be the real deal.....Do we bring Phil back?

Phil has set the Knicks up to draft well for the next few years
Gaines seems like Mills advisor and they have a consistency in not willing to deal picks now

Phil's plans were not the problem. His ego, obsession with the Triangle and constant drama/distractions were the problem.

In the 3 games I watched, I liked that Dotson always seemed to be around the rim for a rebound. Today's stats show that too.

He has a NBA body and a good shot. Is he willing to do the work to improve the rest? If so, he could be the SG for the next 10 years. Up to him.

That's not bad....But playing with Frank off the bench, behind Lee is more realistic. And building chemistry with Frank is more important right now, assuming Frank is not the starter.

Can he play SF is the question I have.....If so, I think his rebounding at the SF position offsets Melo and KP.

KP / Billy or KOQ (I don't think Billy and KOQ should be on the floor together)
Melo / ?
Dotson / ?
Lee / ?
Baker / Frank

If frank and Dotson are our future backcourt I want them to play together to build chemistry together.

I see the rotation working out like this.

KP,Noah
Willy,Oquin
Lance,kuz
Lee,Dotson
Baker,frank

I'd like to see who we get for melo, hopeful it's a starting sf so Lance can back up Willy at the 4 and oquin can back up KP at the 5.

Can't wait to see this lineup play together
KP
Willy
dotson
Baker
Frank

Overall talent wise he had to be the best player (Frank not included) on the team from day one, But he wasnt a feature player until recently. The coaching staff must have been looking for certain things from the other players.

Dotson said it was an adjustment thing for him. Once he adjusted to the speed of the game, he started to build up confidence. This last game is how he normally played in college (I'm guessing) and how he will impact the knicks once he gets his feet wet. I think with his age and maturity mentally and physically, it will not take him long. Same with Frank, since he's a 4 yr pro (eventhough he's 18). If we can add a defensive guard like smart or defensive SF like Crowder, we could be sneaky good.

OR we could shoot ourselves in the foot by being good enough to miss the playoffs, and not bad enough for the #1 pick.

I don't think Dolan will ever want the knicks to obtain a #1 pick the old fashion way, but losing. But rather the Celtics way, by trading.

He really has a chance--if he works hard on his overall game and is developed properly--to be the steal of the 2nd round.

Make no mistake about it, his outside shooting is already elite. He has beautiful form and a quick release.

And he's a tenacious rebounder for a shooting guard.

If he polishes his game, he could emerge as a lottery talent. Give Gaines some credit here.
