Do you have a lead on this or is it projection? It makes some sense for both sides, though I would think that Seattle would want a big in return in addition to someone like Welsch.

I'm assuming Boston is going to give up draft picks as well and not just Ricky "Isiah Rider" Davis, Marcus Banks (mediocre PG and they have Ridnour to be the mediocre PG), Mike Stewart (who's that??), and Jiri Welsch (decent SG, jack-of-all-trades).

Boston would be an alright team.

Nice firepower in the starting 5, would be a lot better if Jefferson can make an impact right away like Stoudemire did. Thin bench, no PG will hurt them.

If I'm Seattle I would think I'd get a back a better package than that for Allen.

i dont think they would trade Allen for a bunch of boston guards and an unknown forward, especially when they have flip "game over" murray

if i were SEA, i wouldn't trade Ray Allen unless i was getting either a good bigman in the process, or a star player on the same level like a Vince Carter.

i think the following is a good deal for both teams:

Ray Allen & Jerome James for Shareef Abdur Rahim, Qyntel Woods & Vladimir Stepania

- POR gets a star shooter who would complement Zach Randolph's interior game perfectly, a big body in James w/an ending contract, & relieves themselves of the controversy at SF between Shareef & Miles.

- SEA gets a low post scoring option who's a great character guy in Rahim who would probably love to re-sign there longterm (unlike Ray Allen who will probably walk via free agency), a young swingman w/potential to back up Rashard in Woods, & yet another european bigman to add to their collection in Stepania.

- neither team gets a bad contract (both Allen & Rahim's contracts are expiring, as are James & Stepania's, & Woods is on his rookie contract w/a team option for next year, so they can let him go if they don't want to hold onto him)

Seattle should do this deal only if they can get Al Jefferson and a draft pick. Otherwise, I'd very happily keep Ray Allen.

Watch this trade not get anywhere near happening. Why would Seattle bring in Ricky "Everything Wrong with This League" Davis? Oh wait Jiri Welsch is involved! Of Course! Now it makes total sense! What a future star that guy is.

No, I'd do everything I could to re-sign him before even thinking about trading him, though

i am going on the notion that SEA probably won't be able to re-sign him...here's an example of what i am reading on this that tells me Ray Allen is not likely to re-sign w/SEA:

The first contract extension of Ray Allen's NBA career was a matter of a few conversations and a handshake with the owner.

It was 1999. A new collective-bargaining agreement had just taken effect, and it made Allen's extension with the Milwaukee Bucks a fill-in-the-blanks arrangement so straightforward (six years, $70.9 million) that the first thing he did before negotiating was fire his agent.

It won't be so simple this time.

That was true even before Allen hired Lon Babby as his agent earlier this summer. The Sonics had already told Allen things had changed in the league since his last contract. Translation: The team won't be handing over a blank check to write out a maximum-contract offer, which in Allen's case would be five years, $100 million.

Each side has incentives to reach an agreement this summer, and both have reasons for waiting to see what's available next year. If there isn't an extension, the likelihood Allen would be traded during the season increases. There won't be an answer anytime soon. "There's going to be no timetable to this," Sund said. "There's no artificial deadlines. Both Lon and I have agreed that we're not going to give periodic updates.

The Sonics won't be pointing to Marbury, Iverson or anyone else from the '96 draft as a starting point for negotiations with Allen. It's going to be Rasheed Wallace's five-year, $57 million deal with Detroit this summer. The starting salary is about $9.1 million, a hefty pay cut from the $17 million he made last season and went from Portland to Atlanta to Detroit, where he won a championship.

Also, he's not an FA. He simply wants an extension. If I couldn't work out an extension between now and February, I'd trade him at the trade deadline. He's a very good player with a huge expiring contract. You shouldn't have trouble getting something good in return for him--somethng a thousand times better than what Briggs listed.

Hoopshype has his contract listed as expiring after this season, so that means he will be a Free Agent after this year...so you either trade him now & get something for him, or you run the risk of not being able to re-sign him & losing him for nothing in the offseason, since it's pretty clear that SEA isn't going to go all out to re-sign him to a max deal that he wants.

No, that's a bag of overhyped overpaid and overrated loosers.

This is the last year of his contract, meaning he has an expiring contract. Expiring contracts have the most trade value at the trade deadline, not over the summer
