The timing of PJ's firing really was poor. So let's say we go after the Holiday brothers and sign both. Then we finally get a GM which allows us to deal with Melo. Then Melo says I will only go to Houston (as example)... we would have even more limited options and likely have to take back crap (Ryan Anderson for 3 years, E.Gordon for 3 years) or possibly redundant players. If we could have sorted out Melo's trade options before or even now, it would be much easier to decide who to sign with available money to fill out the roster... I understand we can also keep him, but if he goes 2 weeks from now - I think it's likely worse unless Celts or Cavs get desperate and change their offers. Thoughts??

Dont believe the situation is as dire as you believe. Its a long season, and some teams will get desperate for a scoring threat due to injuries or production issues. Best case scenario is that Melo plays well enough (its in his best interest) to keep his name out there for when that time might come. Could get a better deal after a new GM is installed anyway. Mills allegedly passed up on Ryan Anderson, glad to hear it.

We already last season that teams desperate for shooting thought he wasn't worth trading Austin Rivers for. But yeah THIS season will be different. LOL

Sometimes you just need to part ways. You can't have Melo around to continually poison the well.

You left out the the part about his injuries, and being shut down for the season. Hard to get teams interested in someone who isnt healthy, at Melo's price tag.

I think Butler, Paul, and CP3 being off the market makes Melo more of a target. Once Heyward signs I think the Knicks will start getting better offers then Ryan Anderson.

He was Shut down for the season prior to the trade deadline? Must have missed that. I also left out the part about his defense, oh well.. so did he.

I think Phil was more desperate and would have taken that deal. The Rockets have been told they need to send 2 first rounders to move his deal. One more first rounder than they needed to move Lin's deal in the last year.

The point being that Melo had been hurt before the deadline, and his injuries were deemed serious enough to shut him down for the season to prevent things from getting worse. Thats not someone who would be in demand by a contender, especially with his trade kicker. I know, Melo baaaaaaaad.

Sweet, I think we should look for a third team and get more picks.. but Anderson and Gordon work for lee and melo... I'd be surprised if the cavs don't come back with a counter offer of love for melo
