and amazing in his first few. Listen... I agree dog, Dumars was so bad with some moves like Darko and Josh Smith but he did build that team.

Lots of good:
August 3, 2000: Traded Grant Hill to the Orlando Magic for Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace.
June 27, 2001: Selected Rodney White (1st round, 9th pick) and Mehmet Okur (2nd round, 38th pick) in the 2001 NBA Draft.
June 26, 2002: Selected Tayshaun Prince (1st round, 23rd pick) in the 2002 NBA Draft.
July 17, 2002: Signed Chauncey Billups as a free agent. This was with the MLE
September 11, 2002: Traded Brian Cardinal, Jerry Stackhouse and Ratko Varda to the Washington Wizards for Hubert Davis, Richard Hamilton and Bobby Simmons.
February 19, 2004: As part of a 3-team trade, the Detroit Pistons traded Chucky Atkins, Lindsey Hunter and a 2004 1st round draft pick (Tony Allen was later selected) to the Boston Celtics; the Detroit Pistons traded Zeljko Rebraca, Bob Sura and a 2004 1st round draft pick (Josh Smith was later selected) to the Atlanta Hawks; the Atlanta Hawks traded Rasheed Wallace to the Detroit Pistons; the Boston Celtics traded Chris Mills to the Atlanta Hawks; and the Boston Celtics traded Mike James to the Detroit Pistons.

And some really bad:
June 26, 2003: Selected Darko Milicic (1st round, 2nd pick)
November 3, 2008: Traded Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson.
July 31, 2013: Traded Brandon Knight, Viacheslav Kravtsov and Khris Middleton to the Milwaukee Bucks for Brandon Jennings.

and plenty in between. The problem is the Knicks are better off than when Phil took over but they are NOT in good shape. There are a couple of nice young prospects in KP, Willy and Frank. There might be another young guy or two who break through and a few decent vets but nothing great. The issue with a guy like Dumars is Knicks cant afford a Darko pick or an Iverson trade.
The Knicks can continue to get better and add talent, but they are also a bad move away from a guaranteed 3 years of 30 win seasons.

That's why Phil was not doing any crappy trades (THANK GOD) or bad drafting (THANK GOD). Phil was amazing except for skewering Melo to the media. Melo likely did deserve that skewering for insubordination and refusing to pass the ball.

Rose for Lopez was a crappy trade.

Reports were that teams could not reach Phil to discuss trades. Lopez and Tyson count as pretty bad trades.

Just like players, execs have runs. Does Dumars have another run in him? IDK. I heard him on NBA TV, and Joe did a great job of articulating the culture problems with the Knicks and how to solve them. I do wonder if he's up for the grind however.
