Berman reported JH looked visibly shaken after the summer league practice..
Well he had just planned Triangle for the last 5 months and probably the entire next season
Also Phil was helping him on defensive adjustments as well (more full court and trapping)All of that had to go out of the window as the new guy will want Horny to insert new modern stuff copycat stuff.
If I'm Horny and I really believe Phil and his plans were good I stick with them. He's getting fired in a year or so unless he does an amazing job this season. So do whatever you think is right regardless. Hornachek needs to do what he thinks is the best style for the team.
If a change is made and the Knicks stop going with an interim he should be gone. Gm/Pres and the coach need to be on the same page and have the same vision.
Yes, but the funny thing is Hornachek is probably exactly what the new guy is looking for.
Someone who will insert a modern NBA offense that is easy for players to grasp.
Horny doesn't run complicated stuff, He had an agreement because of Phil that he would install the Triangle which made his offense look more complicated to the players.
So Horny should do what he thinks is best if he's getting another shot. If he thinks he should revert to his Suns offense, so be it. If he thinks he needs to stick with the same game plan he had, so be it.
To be fair to Hornachek, they should give him a year to evaluate what he can do. I think on offense he is very very smart. His out of bounds plays are usually very good, and that's usually an indication to me of a coach who knows his basketball. The defensive side is where Horny needs help. With Rambis likely out soon, I think they can replace him with a better more modern era defense coach.
I mean we went from 99 points a game with Fisher to 104-105 under Horny. That's with having to run Triangle. If Horny doesn't have orders to run Triangle, I think he'll go with his Suns sets and this team can score 108+ easy. The problem again will be defense. We need better defensive talent and better defensive coaching. Ntilikina was a great start in the right direction. But he's a rookie. Need more players skilled on defense. We have too many guys on this team with a low motor on defense. Melo is the best at hiding on defense by playing casual low motor D. That's the culture that has to change the most.
