Gary Payton? Nobody can be Gary Payton. His whole game wasn't 100% what he could physically do on the court. Frank won't be as mentally and verbally oppressing as Gary Payton.

Payton was more athletic than this kid. This kid will be more like Livingston on defense. Solid but not on the Glove's level. Now if he could turn into a Stacey Augmen type that would be great.

Not nearly as fast or as tenacious on D. Asking a lot for this kid to measure up to The Glove.

1. You see him play?
2. Kid is 18. can you compare the two at the same age.

I can't. You can?

1.Ive seen enough not to compare him to Gary Payton, one of the 3 best perimeter defenders of all time.

2. Briggs isnt comparing him to Payton at age 18, he's comparing him to the finished product.

Stylistically, they are different. Payton and Jordan played a flat-back, shoulders in front of knees position allowing them greater leverage for steals. Patrick Beverly uses a similar defensive stance.

Jordan, Kobe and Avery Bradley use an aggressive hip to hip strategy to track their opponents, applying a lot of ball pressure, poking at the ball on reversals. Tony Allen sort of breaks a lot of defensive rules but has elite timing and steals not infrequently from behind the offensive player.

Iguodala and Kawhi play a between the man and basket style, using their length to maintain a contest distance and steal along the drive trajectory.

At least currently, Ntilikina is more similar defensively to Iguodala and Leonard, plays a more vertical stance and a between the basket containing style. He is slightly more mobile than those guys though and potentially could play a hybrid defensive style, but I think his length and risk aversion lend to the former.

Sh-t in the popcorn to go with sh-t on the court. Its a theme show like Medieval times.

Keep expectations low. If he becomes better than expected, that's a bonus.
All I want/expect is a kid that will play defense, shoot the 3, make the right plays.

12 points/4 assists/1.5 steals with good defense in 2 years is all I am realistically hoping to get.

Whether he can do more depends on his work ethic.

I certainly think he has the talent to be a very good player in the league.

Gary Payton was a relentless defender who also had a quality offensive game. We certainly dont have any SHawn Kemp lob targets--and that is one flaw we need to change--somewhere we will need an athletic infusion--but same good size same long arms nice fluidity--Im not saying hes going to be gary Payton--but teh high end makrk would be a similar type player? I dont see George Hill--this player has more upside because of the D.

Yup...Frye had dropped 30 in one of his games during his rookie yr and some were losing their minds....I think we are getting way ahead of ourselves comparing an 18 yr old who averaged 5pts per to a hall-of-famer like Payton. I've even seen some people compare this kid to Kwahi Kwahi is perhaps the best all around player in the game on both sides of the ball. Not to mention he's 6'7 230lb! Frank is 6'5 170lbs...I just think we are gettig a little ahead of ourselves...

I've been comparing Frank to George Hill since before we even drafted him and still see him as a G.Hill type.

Frank is 6'5 170? Sure he's not 140?

Gary Payton averaged 8ppg and 6assists his first 2 years in the league. He was 22 and 23 years old. GP was literally 25 years old before he was an offensive threat.
