Now that we signed Baker for the LLE. Or are we gonna end up signing him to part of the MLE?

I thought we signed Baker for part of the MLE. I think the deal was 2 years at around 3.2 million each year. I could be wrong though.

the NY Times article says it was a 2 year deal at $3.2 million per season...which equates to $6.4 million in total...if that's accurate, then we still have the LLE as well as a $1.7 million dollar portion of the MLE left to sign players with.

With Crawford and Penny to back up the 2, Ariza signed, and Shandon (unfortunately) still on the team, there is no room or need for Demarr

Honestly, the only reason I would bring Demarr back would be to use him as a trading chip. He didn't impress me during the Summer League and we are loaded in the backcourt so we really don't have much use for him.

I agree; I think the writing was on the wall regarding DerMarr as soon as a kid 5 years younger than him named Ariza started outplaying him in the summer league.

I thought Dermarr was this great young talent that was the equivalent of our missing 1st rd pick this year? Wasn't signing him supposed to be some kind of coup for the Knicks last year and I guess now he's not that good? I guess Ariza replaces Dermarr as the Flavor of the Month around here.

I don't know about other Knick fans, but I really never thought he would end up being a star. I thought he had potential to be a decent role player, but from what I saw of him last year I just didn't think he would be our future. Ariza on the other hand, I really like what I see from him. The kid has a complete game.

I think the thought process on Dermaar is Isiah is making a conscious effort to fill the roster out with young players or prospects that still have upside, unlike the last guy.

The Knicks were very high on Ariza and supposedly tried to trade into the late first round to get him.

Actually we are all just homers and whoever Isiah signs must be totally awesome dude, because Zeke's the man. Dont be a hater.

Keep drinking Isiah's Kool-Aid, Fish. If you want to settle for mediocrity that's fine. I think we should totally suck for the next 3 years, now that would be awesome.

I dont see anyone around here making Knick players out to be something they arent.

Nope, that never happens on these message boards. Naz... I mean Derm... I mean Ariza is really going to be a steal for us.

i wish we could keep DerMarr & get rid of Shandon...i'd even be in favor of keeping Shandon on the IR all year long & signing DJ to a LLE contract.

IMO DerMarr does not deserve anything more than the minimum. Why waste the LLE on him when he didn't play well in the SL and basically got outplayed by Ariza. Its not like any other teams are calling hime offering him anything.

Exactly; I still think DerMarr has more upside than the average player taken in the middle to late first round. (Check out any recent draft at *all* the players taken that late, not just the two or three stars who you remember being mid to late picks like Ron Artest.) If we can fill the final two roster spots with a C with upside and with DerMarr, that's fine with me. I thought we had only one roster spot, not two, when I posted the previous message. (My bad!)

Should we agree that DeMarr might be better to have than Shandon, or is Shandon's defense worth it over holding on to DeMarr?

Honestly, I'd keep Shandon. He has a role on this team, as a defensive specialist. Granted that's all he does, but he does it well. What does DerMarr do that our other guard/forwards don't? Tim Thomas, Jamal Crawford and Allan Houston are all clearly more talented in most aspects.

Sure, Knicks fans demanded something to make themselves feel better after the Layden era ended and Isiah supplied all the Kool-Aid they could drink. Econ-101 Supply and Demand.

Here's another. Isiah gave up most of his tradeable assets in the Marbury deal so when it came down to this offseason he didn't have enough left to get Dampier, the frontline help that we desperately needed. Econ-102 Opportunity Cost.
