I read that we're working him out today. Before tearing his ACL, Smith was a top tier point guard prospect along with Fultz and Ball. Make no mistake about it, they were on the same level. In fact, had he not torn his ACL, he would have been discussed as a potential #1 overall pick--definitely in the top 3. If he drops to 8, we have no choice but to snatch him up on sheer talent level alone. He is very similar to Fultz in a lot of ways. He has elite athleticism, strength, quickness and agility with the ball. He's an alpha male with an scorer's mentality. The only knocks on him are his defense (which he can improve with coaching), his jump shot (which has already improved; better than Fox right now) and his demeanor (again coachable). You pick the best available player and Smith would be that at 8. I like the French kid a lot, but I don't think he'll be ready to contribute significantly next year and is more of a project with less of a ceiling. Smith has the highest ceiling at that slot in the draft. I hope he falls to 8. No reason to overthink this one: take the best player available at the spot (regardless of triangle). And if the Finals have shown us anything, it's you need a point guard with elite skills to compete in this league; Smith has the potential to be that guy.

I think that sums it up well.

You take him on sheer talent alone. Luckily, it just so happens he's a back court player. No need to worry about creating a log jam upfront with our current bigs.

I'm warming to him, i agree. The talent is crazy. This is why i was never really a fan of trading up. If Smith or Monk drops to us, you take them, because the talent is on par with the top tier guys. There's no clear-cut franchise player in this draft, but 1 thru maybe 8 or 9, there is major all-star talent.

If Isaac is off the board he should be the Knicks pick without question at number 8.

I agree. I don't think the Knicks could pass on him if he is there.

If he has a great workout and the Knicks do their research on him and come away comfortable with drafting him at 8 then I would be all for it.

But if he is as talented as people say though. There is no way he falls to 8 without it being do to major red flags.

He is someone that has the talent to put up numbers immediately though and worst case under a rookie contract would be tradeable.

the little I know, I do think he is likely the best pick available, and if we pass, we'll regret it.

I don't think it's over-thinking it to question whether he's committed to defense, or whether he's only most effective when dominating the ball

He certainly seems intriguing I admit but I don't think it's a slam dunk [pun intended]

you really think this kid is falling to 8?

phil would redeem himself if he some how grabs this kid at 8, and also trade for Rubio.

Smith, Monk or Isaac should be there. I am afraid the Knicks might take Frank.

Maybe we add pick 12 and grab Frank there - I would be totally ok with that.

Smith or Isaac....WHO DO U TAKE.

That's going to be Phil's dilemma. I think it depends on his trade options. Isaac would be a nice pick....finding a triangle PG shouldn't be difficult. but finding a two way player like Isaac who plays 3 positions and a melo replacement would be hard to find. long....fast ....unselfish players is the way to go. stay away from acl injuries especially with small explosive guards.

There was an article about him being one of 20% of the people on the planet with an extra ligament in his knee. Adrian Peterson has the same thing. It allowed them both to recover much faster than most. The article was posted in the draft thread. There is a lot of good stuff in it.

If Isaac is there you take Isaac. Isaac and KP in the front court would be amazing. Isaac has all defensive potential down the road.

AP had that one good season afterward and then he got hurt again, so I could see the concern about ACL's, especially a kid who uses his athleticism for most of his moves. With the knicks luck..smh, Im only drafting him if I got a legit starter already.

I agree Isaac, willy and KP is a deadly front court... if isaac is there at 8 you take him.

Before he tore his ACL, he definately was the best point guard prospect in the draft. His high school career was filthy. He was like a video game. Since the injury and after seeing him in college, he's lost alot of that explosion. He's not blowing by guys and taking over games with his ball handling. He's not jumping out the gym like he was. Right now he reminds me alot of Kyle Lowry. That could be read as good, but I'm talking about Lowry on a bad day... Before the injury he was Steve Francis in his prime. I would like to see the kid workout. If he's blowing guys away in the workouts, then I could see Sacramento or Orlando taking him. We'll see...

Maybe I'm wrong but sounds like we'd be drafting D Rose 2.0.
