Would you like to see the Knicks pursue a Mello to the Celtics trade where the Knicks and Celtics swap picks?

Can the Celts still give us expiring contracts back (as in Amir Johnson)?

I doubt the Celts would do it now after passing on the trade for Melo back in Feb. Most likely they would move one of their guards if Fultz proves as good as advertised for an elite defensive minded big.

Are you talking about swapping picks 1 and 8 for Melo because Boston wouldn't do that in a trillion years IMO. Swapping our 8 for their 37 might be more realistic!

They are guard heavy for sure if they draft Fultz. I can see them moving Bradley and Crowder.

Celts have to deal with isiah Thomas contract next year. Melo will eat a lot of cap. Not sure this is a good fit unless they feel Melo can take them over the top.
Have to think about this: Who guards Lebron in a series? 33-34 year old Melo? Pay all that money and come playoff time who gets that assignment?
This isn't Phil badmouthing his player, its "Tape don't lie"!

I think I would in 2 seconds.

I love KP, but I still have a lot of questions about his durability, ability to fill out. I'm not sure he is a franchise impact player- e.g., someone like Lebron or Wade.

Can a big like KP thrive when the league is being run over by players like Westbrook, Isiiah Thomas, LeBron, Kyrie Irving, Curry, etc.

All quick wings that can shoot lights out and get to the rim at will.

The chance to grab 2 top 8 players in the same draft, and reset the button.

If I'm the Celtics, I don't think I do that trade at all.

Bradley is proving to be a valuable glue guy he is one of the longer tenured players and leader type. Anyways I see the Celtics taking Josh Jackson.

5 yrs was the last time the Celtics were in the ECF, now they are back there with #1 pick in their back pocket, and bradly is the only on the roster from the last ECF..

talk about making all the right moves without sacrificing winning for tanking..NO way they would saddle themselves with melo, Ainge Knows what he's doing

Ainge stepped in **** twice. McHale gift wrapped KG to him coming in, and the Nets gift wrapped a deal for KG going out. Take those away and what do you get?

I'm not so sure about them taking JJ- they want to sign Hayward plus they drafted Karen Brown last year

If we'd jumped into the top 3 in the lottery I would have done it- build on Fultz and Josh Jackson. I like the idea of landing Fultz, but then who do you draft at 8 if you move KP for the Celtics pick? No one I'm super excited about

I'd need the Celtics to also take Joakim Noah, then include Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown and a pick swap on that BKN pick in 2018....but yeah, I'd do it. I'd be estatic if we could also finagle Juan Hernangomez as well to form Hermanos Hernangomez.

fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

An owner who doesn't devalue his own assets? Why didn't he say something like, "The pick would probably be better off elsewhere"?!

$5 says the Lakers are the team that swaps its pick... I'm sure Paul George would love to go to the Lakers and perhaps the Bulls call to see if they'd like Jimmy Butler

Sean Gilbert.

Sean.

Gilbert.

Sean Gilbert was a defensive lineman with an impressive early career with the Rams and Redskins. He refused to play under the still relatively new franchise tag in the NFL and did what is very very uncommon. He sat out an entire season.

The Carolina Panthers signed him to an offer sheet for about 50 million. Which is an insane amount of money even now for a defensive lineman, and was doubly insane back then. The Redskins let him go, instead of matching, and by then rules, they got TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS for losing Gilbert.

Gilbert proceeded to play pretty crappy, got hurt a lot, and eventually got everyone in that then Panthers regime fired.

What did Gilbert cost the Panthers?

- 2 first round picks, and back then, with option years, about TWELVE YEARS TOTAL OF COST CONTROL for highly slotted drafted players.
- Nearly 50 million in cap space they could have spent elsewhere
- The opportunity cost of the roster spot, playing anyone else, without the brand name and big contract to justify the signing in the first place

For the Celtics to trade for Melo, they'd have to give up four years of cost control for a potential franchise player, they'd lose their current cap space or a ton of it, where they could sign someone else and they'd take on a player who brings more questions than answers, who doesn't move well of the ball, won't play team ball, won't play defense, is a ball stopper and has no problem being a coach killer, and of late, won't hesitate to use Leon Rose and CAA to hatchet job anyone in the press.

If the Knicks and Celtics were in complete reverse situations, would you give up 4 years of cheap possible franchise player PLUS a chance at someone like Gordon Hayward for Melo?

Melo creates a "double hit" scenario is almost any trade proposed. He's costing a team not just outgoing assets, but burning up cap space too.

The double hit scenario goes away when he's talked about being moved for bad contracts. This is where Melo might be more useful, even with his ball stopping limitations, than a truly dead contract like a Mozgov.

Base point, if the Celtics tried to make this trade, Ainge would get shot down in the streets of Boston. They would literally set him on fire in the middle of Fenway Park.

Any Melo trade scenario is going to practically have to include bad contracts coming back. I wish that was not the case, but no team wants to eat a Sean Gilbert double hit in regards to Melo.

Swap picks with Celtics???
