Because at this point, we have diddly squat at the center position.

I wouldn't exactly call this a waisted summer, but were in serious trouble if we go into the season with Nazy as our starting C.

We should start KT at center with sweet at PF.
Bench would be nazr and baker.

Better than what we had last yr, at least.

Nazr showed flashes of being a good offensive center- had some big games where he shot 7 of 9 for 20pts.

consistency is a problem for a lot of players.

I don't mind having Nazr as my starting center

the key will be Lenny getting the most out of all the players on a regular basis.

Plus- I am afraid if we had gotten Damps (for anything but the MLE), we would have regretted it- maybe not this year, but next year or the year after- part way through his contract, we'd be talking about what an underacheiver he is and how we all wish we had shandon anderson again instead.

Baker, Nazr, Sweets, KT & JYD aren't such a bad front line- they don't have to be pretty, they just need to perform up to their respective talents and abilities.

Its the match up with Shaq that concerns me.I think Nazr will have a better season being here from the start but he is going to need some help in guarding Shaq and some of the other big men in the league.Id be curious to see how a Nazr/Sweets front line would do,not necessarily to start but at some point in the game after KT sits.

Naz is a back-up plain and simple, he is never going to be a "starter", he is the charlie ward of the Knicks, starter by default. He is not a good shot blocker, not quick on his feets, and has limited range, and is not overpowering anyone. So how is he going to emerge. Plain and Simple he is not, we should start Kurt at Center and bring Naz off the bench

Rebuilding takes YEARS. If the Knicks improve this year overall, but still struggle against a few teams like the Heat, I'll be happy with the improvement. And I'll wait until next summer with the 40 mil in expiring contracts to get a center.

Maybe Nazy will finally emerge
I think that if you try to go after Baker, Keon Clark, and Pryzbilla, and still have Nazy, it's not inconceivable that one or more of them would emerge as one of the better frontcourt players in the east (or re-emerge in Baker's case). But the best bet is to enjoy the improvement in the roster over the past 9 months and wait until next summer when we have far more trade assets than this summer

i think we could do much worse than nazr/vin or nazr/vin/kurt combo at center. is it ideal, of course not, but i don't think we should all hang our heads. it's going to be a FUN season with the new players and of course the development of sweetney.

My post had nothing to do with rebuilding. The topic is "Will Nazy finally emerge?" which I answered.

Nazr can put up some good numbers on this team because he will have a tons of chances for offensive boards and garbage points. He's a good athlete. Very quick, and his strength is when he's playing around the basket. He's awfull in set plays, has bad footwork and no range. When he follows slashers to the rim and plays in motion he's pretty good.

I hope he has a great year... he's a huge trading piece if he does. He averaged 10/8/1 as a starter in 25 minutes. If we could get him something like 28-30 minutes and get him averaging a double double I think this is huge for us moving forward. Look at what guys like Foyal and Dampier got. Nazr is 26.

In March he averaged 11/9.5 in 28 minutes. Then his #'s dropped as Vin got some playing time. This guy is pretty productive when he gets time. The biggest problem with him is his defense is lousy. I dont know how much that can improve.

nazr would've been a nice center to have if we still had the defense of rebounding of oakley at the PF position. i think nazr is a more than adequate offensive center BUT the team need is defense at this position. i would trade him for gadzuric right now. hell, i would move him AND ariza for dalembert right now.

I think Nazr is fine defensively. i think him and sweets will be a good front 2 for us. Lets see what happens. I dont think Dalembert is the answer thogh.

Nazr defense needs a lot of work. He has poor positioning and is a lousy shot blocker. He is however a very capable offensive threat. I think his deficiencies can be hidden by using zone defense. I think we need to play zone against Shaq anyways.

Now that Shaq is back in the east, we need to pick up some bangers to foul Shaq.

He's also foul prone, which limited his minutes.

And since KT got his contract extension he's been super inconsistant, and his effort has been as shady as ever.

Not a fan of Nazr because of his defense, which, imo, is attrocious. It's not just the lack of shotblocking. I've never seen a big man fight so little for post position (except maybe Fugazy). He gives up the block, then has nothing to offer to stop any kind of decent post moves. Hey, I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm expecting to see KT and Baker or KT and Sweets starting by the end of the season, which wouldn't be good for the team long-term, because I'd rather Nazr develop into something more than he is now or at least show some trade value.

There's no doubt in my mind that sweeetny will be one of the best rebounders in the history of the game before he retires

wait- who was our center before Nazr got here?

Its not like we traded a Patrick Ewing in his prime for Nazr.

Did anyone see Parcells comment about the media thinking that he could just dial 1-800-get-a-quarterback?

I say the same thing- what is isiah supposed to do?

You all bash Nazr as if we could just go get someone better?

And as far as facing Shaq- they're not in our division so- what, we have to play him 4x per year and we should just give up our whole roster to get Dampier who I am sorry isn't that great just so we have some big body to through Shaq's way?

If I had had to pick between Crawford and Dampier- I am taking Crawford every day.

And I think that was the choice Isiah had to make.

So, do I trade everything I have for a 30 year old underacheiving big who might be an albatross in 2 years, or do I take a flyer on a young, high scoring back court player who's scored 50Pts in an NBA game?

I am glad not Damp. 36 year old damp is not going to be pretty.

Vin is our starting center.

Vin went to the wizard of oz and got a new heart. Sober and feeling good, we have the NBA comeback player of the year.

Nazr can sit his butt on the bench and be backup.

Relax fellas, the knicks are in the thick of things. Don't get your hopes too high, just hope they are fun to watch and win a few meaningful games!
