I would say Keon Clark is the best option. Joel Przybila might not be awful.

Sigh...

Przybilla is a good rebounder, I'd rather have a shot blocker and athlete like Clark.

just resign Baker and keep the money. Dampier is gone, but Baker still fills a major need. He's a good scorer down low, he's a very long player and he will have his moments. He's a great stop gap player for 2 years. If this stuff about his heart is half true there is a fair upside and for the money he's a good deal.

=\ *sigh* had really wanted to get rid of kurt and nazr for a legit center. Wouldve been ideal. GEt Sweetney minutes, backup with JYD, start Dampier, back him up with baker.

I dunno now.. i guess clark would be ok, but that would really jam up our front court if we also got baker.

I agree with fish. That money might come in handy.

I'd love to get Vin for the LLE and then give Stro Swift a 6 yr MLE deal and see if Memphis matches. But I think it will take more than the LLE to get Baker. If it takes part of the MLE to get Baker, I'd say split the MLE between him and Keon Clark. (You still have the $1.6 mil LLE then if you want some money available during the year to sign a player like Fish has talked about)

Our interior defense is going to be seriously bad. Not only didn't we get a legitimate center but we lost Deke's shotblocking abilities and we traded our best defensive guard in FW. Teams are going to drive right past our defensively weak 3 guard rotation and look up to see Nazr Mohammed. Ouch.

We better be able to score this year because we're not going to be able to stop anybody.

The thought of Shaq going for 60 against us just flashed in my mind. Double ouch.

Obviously we aren't going to go anywhere without a legit center. However, there is no one available. So I say we resign Baker and go into battle with the players we have now. Next year we have a ton of expiring contracts that can be used to land a good center. Dampier for the MLE would've been great, but we just have to move on. We have enough talent to get to the 2nd round of the playoffs this year and if we develop some great chemistry you never know what could happen.

BTW anyone besides me think we should offer the MLE at 6 years to Swift and see if West was bluffing?

No, because he probably isn't bluffing and then we also lose out on Baker (unless Baker agrees to the LLE, in which case I'd take that chance on Stro)

BTW, Isles, the Knicks were fine last season during that 15 game stretch when Dikembe was out and they're only an improved team now. (JYD is a good defender, Kurt should be healthy, and Baker's surgery may end up helping him)

How fine were we during the playoffs when the money was on the table? The Nets went to the rim with impunity. How are we better defensively now than we were then when we still stunk?

Yea I meant if Baker agrees to the LLE because some sources are saying that he is signing for the LLE. Guess we will just have to wait and find out how much money Baker gets.

You're right; the interior defense was better in the 15 game stretch without Mutombo than in the playoffs with Mutombo. That's a good point that I hadn't realized.

Okay, I don't think Stromile will get his free from Jerry for solely the MLE. Also, at this rate, what's to stop Phoenix (5.8 mill), Charlotte (7.5) or Atlanta (6.8) from making a bigger offer to Stro?

I think the options are:

Make an offer to Rodney White. Can he be a power forward? Maybe. He's an athletic big guy who could develop, or replace TT if the need arises to trade TT.

Sign Joel Przyb. He's got potential, if nothing else.

Sign Keon. Shot blocker, likes Lenny.

Sign Oberto. The starting center for the Argentinian team. He's 6'10", he's a banger and he can shoot and play the post. Not a great shot blocker, but at least a defensive pressence.

I'm resigned to signing Baker for $3 million, but we need to get some defense with the remaining $2 million. I know we're looking to build, but we also need to be able to stop the bleeding this year.

Keon's been an excellent shot-blocker on every team he's played for.

I think the Knicks' best options now if they can't get Stro are to try to split the MLE between Baker and Clark and try to get Pryzbilla for the LLE. That plus Crawford would make both the backcourt and frontcourt substantially improved from last year and would leave the team in a good position next summer with 40+ mil in expiring contracts.

The pickings are slim out there for a center. Let's just go with Vin who is 6'11 with a post game. I would start Kurt at C and Vin at PF. Nazr off the bench would be a good spark for us. Then there is JYD and Sweetney off the bench which is pretty darn good in my opinion. Remember a healthy Kurt will go full strength on D especially in the post. Let's just ride this season as is with Vin and see what Isiah can pull off at the trade deadline.

This is why I like Kurt. I like people that work hard, play out of position if they have to and do not complain much. He might not be as gifted as Shareef but I just for some reason would find it easier to depend on him than on Reef.
