GS Trades:

C Erick Dampier
C Evan Eschymer
G Dan Dickau

Dallas Trades:
F Eduardo Najera
F Christian Laettner
2 future First-Round Picks
Cash

see i knew that the extra first round picks were something we just dont have for years. they had much more fire power to make a trade.

hey dampier made out well he got his money and stayed true to play for a contender.

for all those draft pick haters and low budget players--they are the assets that you need in many cases to close a deal. crp i wouldtrade KT for a future Atlanta pick tommorrow.

If you want to make the playoffs next year, you might want to keep Kurt. But I see your point. If people think this team is far off from being a contender, and it is, something needs to be done that isn't necessarily a fix for today, but a plan for tomorrow.

The good thing is Jamal, Tim, Marbs, Sweets and Nazr are all young. This team has a few years and a few chances (expiring Penny, Moochie, etc) to get an impact big.

Sigh...

Well look on the bright side. We don't have to live through countless redundant topics about Dampier for the next month.

BTW, here's the link...

Mavs definitely now a contender in the West with a legit big man who rebounds and defends.

Oh well, when it came down to it Dallas gave them an expiring contract (Laettner), a good character guy with reasonable contract (Najera), TWO draft picks, and cash.

That's just a lot to give up, Dallas doesn't need draft picks w/ Harris, Howard, and Daniels.

I know it's not too much of a big deal, but I don't see anything that says Damp agreed to this. (Sorry, just trying to hang on any hope that's possible)

I dont and never wanted Dampier. I am not too sorry about this. Look at the bright side, we get someone like Swift and watch Dampier underachieve for Dallas :)

I don't expect to get Swift but it would be fantastic if we did.

If it means not giving Dampier a six year contract at $9 million per year, I'm glad that the Knicks aren't getting him.

It's a LOT to give up. Isn't this basically the same package people were crying about the Knicks giving up to get Marbury? After thinking about it, Mullin held out and got a great deal.

Credit to Briggs for calling that trade. Cube ponied up the cash and the picks. Great. I dont care. They'll be singing Kumbaya around the campfire until Tim and Tony hand it to them again in May.

Dampier for anything above MLE cash was pushing the scale anyway. What'd he get? 6 years, 60 mil. I mean, I'll get the Chateau Margaux every once in a while but thats a little steep, don't you think...

Surprise of the offseason - after a year Mullin actually got a deal done. And by "deal" I mean anything besides bending over. For GS fans, it must have been like a bad Hooter's audition that wouldn't end.

one thing about this deal, didn't dickau and laettner just get traded to their respective teams. isn't there a 60 or 90 day period where they can't be traded again?

how does this work out? or is it two seperate deals?

The deal cannot be official until next week, when the 60 day waiting period on Laettner ends.

i see...you mean like how the Knicks used their expiring contracts & draft picks to get Stephon Marbury? gotcha.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
