So Melo wrote #staymelo on his instagram reply to Phil Jackson.

Basically I wanted to ask everyone's opinion of what happens if Melo refuses to waive the NTC? Do they bench him, cut him, severely limit his minutes. Like what are the options if he decides he doesn't care being on a rebuild team to end his career?

Phil said some nice things about Melo, but he also said to the media in effect that if Melo was too soft to handle criticism, he should play somewhere else. It wasn't the criticism, it was the venue. After that press conference, he knows who has a better rep right now. Maybe Melo wants a full buyout, and this is his way of trying to make it happen. Not sure.

Ride the pine. Melo is not going to ride the pine he wants his scoring record it's very important to him that he be in top something. He is going to waive the NTC. It's in his best interest.

I think that could be really interesting. AT what point does the nba get involved with the KNicks again in regards to management and ownership. Phil and Dolan are such an embarassment. I was hoping something would happen with the Oakley incident. Phil is the new worst exec in the league that works for the Knicks and has more job security than anyone in the nba. The knicks have had that guy before and it always sucks.

Are you saying the Knicks weren't the most valuable team when Stern intervened with Isiah? Or that the Clippers weren't valuable when Silver stepped in?

What should the NBA do, rig a better Knicks result? Won't the other 29 teams be a bit um - pissed?

Melo is done in NY.
He already gave his list to the Knicks before the deadline.
Don't believe what these guys say infront of the camera.

The Knicks know he'll accept a trade to Clippers/Cavs maybe another team. They will only negotiate with those teams. 3 way trade is very possible.

Melo is undefeated in power struggles. Have to hand it to Phil - he can't build a competitive NBA team to save his life, but he and Melo should be in the headlines all summer.

There was nothing to be gained by Phil's posturing but stroking his own ego. He shoots down melos trade value and makes Melo an adversary. Heck with the NTC melo might demand the Knicks get absolutely nothing back and take bad contracts so the team he goes has a better shot. Phil has enough trouble getting fair value in a trade, why make his job harder?

It depends, if it made Dolan fire Phil, then disaster- we're stuck with declining Melo for the next 2 years, hogging the ball, not playing defense, taking all the last game shots, teaching KP how to be more like him. Honestly, the steps back KP has made this season have all been about him playing more like Melo- no defense, jacking up bad shots, complaining about management etc Melo is mentoring him to be the second coming of him.

The new GM would likely reverse course and try to appease Melo, that means 'committing to winning' (i.e. screwing over the franchise long term to chase the 8th seed).

if it didn't mean Phil was fired then I'd just let Melo know we won't be reneweing him when his contract runs out and that he'll be playing off the bench for 25mins per game.

Eh, Phil is committed to winning and we're still bottom 5 every year.

Your exuberance is kind of sad.
Dolan will not fire Phil, he just gave him two more years. If anything, Dolan will extend him beyond.

Forced by who? You think Melo will be put in charge? Or that the NBA will treat Phil like some sack of garbage?

Delirious thinking. Maybe they'll take down the Knicks banners and replace them with the Melo years while they're at it.

You would have chaos at the Garden if Phil is removed. It would give Melo cover for being the worst trade in Knicks history. What would replace Phil would look something like the Yankees before Steinbrenner.

The reason it won't happen is that the owners will see it for what it is - subversion of the system. They all have a right and responsibility to run their show as they please. Give the tail the right to wag the dog and your franchise is in the hands of fools.

I thought Phil was all the way realistic... fans were crying that he wasn't more transparent. He puts it all out there and fans are killing him for that.

If Melo wants to play hardball and not waive his no trade clause, then the Knicks should Marbury his ass. Bench him and make him sit out until he lifts his no trade clause. The team comes before Melo. We don't bow down to no single player I dont care who it is. We are building with youth and that's it. If he starts an internal rif... then we send him home. We don't waive him. Treat him like the 15th man. We need to make a stand.... That's if Melo wants to play this game
