Inside Dish: Celtics interested in Marion

Aug. 16, 2004, 01:00 AM
Rumors have linked the Celtics--who have $15 million in contracts that expire at the end of the season after trading for PG Gary Payton--to Suns SF Shawn Marion. Phoenix, having just signed PG Steve Nash and SG Quentin Richardson, is facing the prospect of G/F Joe Johnson becoming a free agent next summer and a maximum-dollar extension for PF Amare Stoudemire. Creating payroll space is a necessity for Phoenix, and Marion is the most likely target.

That's hilarious. Matrix is a more athletic Antoine Walker. If the crux of Danny Ainge's ridiculous rebuilding is to trade Walker for Matrix, I'll laugh my ass off. That's one flawed forward with no real position for another flawed forward with no real position...

I like a Pierce-Matrix 1-2 punch for the celtics. Marion's value is suffering a lot because of his play in the olympics, but in the NBa he should still be viewed as a rising star. he's got a lot more potential than walker, and despite being undersized hes a great rebounder.

yeah, matrix is a better and different player than walker.

walker is a rebounding point forward, tosses up treys because (according to walker) "there arent any 4-point shots" small forward type.

matrix is a rebounding, above the rim, small forward type.

MAtrix used to play like that, he's been chucking up a lot more threes lately (and I mean last season, not counting the Olympics). Also, didn't Marion play like crap at the World Championships too? Why did he get asked back?

He's extremely overrated. And at this point, Walker is underrated. Walker is a far superior scorer and playmaker. Marion is a better jumper and rebounder. Both play outside way too much at this point, probably because they're rich and sick of the contact.

people underrate the importance of a player who can flat out score and shoot the ball. You can't sign players based on their rebounding stats. Thats what happened with this olympic team. It's built like a fantasy team.
