Talent and Arrogance loses to teamwork and desire

I LOVE IT

I don't really think it's arrogance, it's a team that doesn't have the right pieces to compete.

This a US team full of young rich cats who think this is street ball. It is arrogant. Obviously they aren't coachable either, because I know that that coaching staff is top notch. You can't just show up and think you will win because you are the USA. Puerto Rico just proved that.

I don't think you can say that they are uncoachable when they've only been together for a limited time. You can't teach shooting in a couple weeks. You can't form team cohesiveness in a couple weeks. The reason they are losing is because they are playing teams that are cohesive and complete. We are an incomplete team that is talented and athletic, but doesn't have the necessary shooters. And of course, all the missed FTs played a part in it.

mattinNH is right...you can't just put a bunch of Slashers/street ballers on a team and expect it to work.

I'm Puerto Rican and Puerto Rico is part of the US. I'm also a 6 year veteran of the US Army Air CAV so spare me with the patriotic rhetoric. Have you served "your" country?

Puerto Rico just did

Since when is Puerto Rico a U.S. state?

if they were they wouldn't be in the olympics. Then none of the Puerto Rican players would be playing. Not even Arroyo.

Actually... Puerto Rico is like a hermaphrodite... it's BOTH a country and a state. They like to reap the benefits of being part of the USA but their too proud to ever call themselves a "state". HAHA...JK...

But seriously though... once again we see US arrogance and half ass ****. Also you can't expect team USA to blow out other teams by 20 every game, you can't deny that international players get better every year, give them some credit.

This a disgrace. Coaching is great, Brown is the best coach in the NBA. These players are just don't feel like trying. They deserve what they got. A bunch of arrgorant lazy reach pushovers.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Puerto Rico 92, United States 73
By CHRIS SHERIDAN, AP Basketball Writer

August 15, 2004

ATHENS, Greece (AP) – In an upset that was as historic as it was inevitable, the U.S. men's basketball team lost for only the third time ever in the Olympics on Sunday, 92-73 to Puerto Rico.

It was also the most lopsided loss in the games for the Americans, alarming not only for its significance but also for its decisiveness.

Puerto Rico, which had lost to the Americans five times in the past 13 months, took control in the first half, led by 22 at halftime and gamely held off a fourth-quarter comeback for one of the biggest sports achievements in the island territory's history.

The loss was a blow to the confidence of Tim Duncan, Allen Iverson and the rest of the Americans, but it did little to hurt their gold medal chances. They need only to finish in the top four of their six-team group to reach the quarterfinals.

Still, the defeat will go a long way toward giving the competition the bold idea that it's someone else's turn to move to the top of a sport that's been dominated by one country for nearly three-quarters of a century.

As Carlos Arroyo left the court with just over a minute left, he defiantly pulled at the words ``Puerto Rico'' on his jersey. He led his team with 24 points.

I think they tried, looked like it. I mean, there's no way they wanted
to be the team to lose to PR by 20+, or be the first pro team to lose at all. They were just outplayed.

Not to say they didnt underestimate PR tho, because I think that they did, coming into the game.

Look a team of NBA stars if they actually bother to show up can't loose, period. The fact that they did is a monument to there commitment.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

it's not surprising because international ball has gotten better and we have absolutely NO shooters!

So you are telling me that a team of NBA stars can't shoot from 15-20 feet at all? Not even a little bit? What does that say about the NBA then.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

did any of u watch the game? i did, and although USA didnt bring their game on.... the refs were giving MANY fouls for PR but not the same for US. US also missed many wide open shots, layups, and free throws. I also saw ramos play and he looks very raw but has great size.
