This. We cant keep trying to bring in 1-2 guys and hope they fix things. Gotta build it up the right way. Drafting Willy really helps missing the 2 first rounders around the KP draft.

Willy is regularly in the top 10 rookie ladders, so essentially he's turned out to be a top 10 pick (albeit in a weak draft) on a peanuts salary, which is very good. In a normal or good draft class, I'd put him as a mid first rounder, which is still excellent value. I see him as a good role player, not so much a foundation piece though. I'll be very happy to be proved wrong.

Like I've said a few times before- use free agency to find role players, cap space to help facilitate trades in exchange for picks, and use the draft to add star or high calibre players. there are no quick fixes any more, free agency can no longer be used to build a contender due to the nature of the CBA. Fans calling for Phil's head simply re-enforce the stupid belief that youc an't rebuild in in NY:

The unspoken code at Madison Square Garden was always that if the Knicks stripped it down and started over, New Yorkers would revolt. That mentality resulted in quick-fixes, sloppy patchwork jobs and overspending just to keep the roster fluid. These former GMs, mindful of tickets that cost the equivalent of two-bedroom condos, always feared the chance of hearing it from bean-counters (and maybe owner Jim Dolan) if the Garden went half-full.

You've probably heard it before: New York needs and craves stars, New York must have competitive teams every year, New York won't sit still for rebuilding, blah, blah. Those in charge of shaping the Knicks fell for it and have tried to build a winner every way except the most sensible way.
And they embraced this approach in part because they feared the fans. That doesn't make sense, because New York fans are wiser than that. They know the difference between a smokescreen and a Charles Oakley screen. They'll be patient if the blueprint makes sense and if they can see results.

The bottom line is, if you refuse to rebuild via the draft, you simply fail to rebuild.

Fans, including myself, are much more open to a rebuild since we have KP. We at least have a place to start. It makes a huge difference to have that one player to begin a rebuild with.

Sure KP has a LOT more developing to do physically and in his overall game. I do think that he will improve and if we can upgrade the PG spot that can really help KP a lot. Not to mention getting an athletic SF who can do more of what we need from a SF. Those are the key spots that can really have a great impact on how this team functions next year. The SF spot is a very important spot for this team.

Also i'd like to upgrade the overall shooting on the team. SG needs more quality and depth and youth going forward. This has to be the summer were we make major upgrades at the PG and Wing positions. IMO that's how you can make significant progress from where the team is at.

So we already had

calderon- A career 40% three point shooter with a pass first mentality, that should have been our steve kerr in the triangle, and that was a major failure

larkin- a quick PnR player that had a decent perimeter shot, could pass and get into the lane, that failed big time

Galloway- a combo guard, that could defend a little, shoot a little, but couldn't pass to save his life, but then no pg will avg more than 4 assist in the triangle

Jennings- a pass first PG, streaky shooter, could run a basic offense, lot of energy on both ends and that failed to the point the player wanted out.

Rose- One of the best scoring/penetrating guards in the league, and you can't wait to get rid of him.

We basically had every style of pg since phil got here and none of them have been remotely successful.

10-15 lbs + a good mismatch post game and better midrange efficiency for next year

Big Man post moves 2 years from now.

He needs to work on the arc for his J... It is too flat for me. Hopefully he works with Dirk in the off-season and fixes this.
