Jahidi White is on the trading block according to ESPN INsider - anymore info on this?

Any ESPN INsider members have the "inside" scoop that they can post here?

I think we'd need to do a 3-way trade to get Jahidi, but imagine having him develop at the 5 for us, slide camby over to the 4, with KT backing up at both spots (4&5). We'd have someone to at least battle Shaq on the low blocks.

I'm sure Jordan wants some future picks to replace Jahidi (who was a second rounder in 1998). Would Othella Harrington be good enough for Jordan? Maybe, but probably not. The only one on our roster who Jordan really wants (and we'd give him) is LJ, but the salaries aren't even close to matching, LJ clocks in at 11mil per, with Jahidi set as a base year player, and only 2.5 million in acceptable return salary. Jordan does have a 1.25 million trade exception though...

I wonder if Jahidi being on the block has anything to do with Jordan trying to push to acquire Payton... (Jahidi, Rip Hamilton, Picks and Misc contracts for Payton). Hmm.

Marc Jackson is a similar type of player to Jahidi White, a little taller, less cut up though, and less actual NBA experience (and proven-ness).

Also, Jayson Williams seems set on playing again, and wants to join Jordan in Washington. Is this why jordan is trying to get rid of Jahidi, since Brenda Haywood has already come aboard and Laettner is playing the 5 (with Jordan at the 3, Alexander at the 2, and Kwame at the 4)? The frontcourt in washington seems a little crowded, too much so w/ Jahidi around... and Washington still needs help at the point.

I say we go for him, but we'd probably have to get him in a 3 way. Who'd be our trading partners? Why, Dallas probably. We'd have to send out Charlie Ward or Harrington and Bogues to Dallas for Jahidi, with Dallas sending PG Howard Eisley to Washington.

This trade works and checked under REALGM trade checker. Trade ID number 352634.

Let me know what you guys think.

From ESPN Insider

Will Jahidi White be the next Wizard to pack his bags?
Michael Jordan promised Wizard fans that he'd remove that losing stigma in Washington by any means necessary. Over the course of the past year he's found a way to dump Rod Strickland, Juwan Howard, Mitch Richmond and almost every other player on the Wizards' roster when he arrived.

Apparently he's not done. A league source told ESPN Insider that Jordan has been talking to several teams about trading center Jahidi White. The Mavericks and Rockets are the most interested. The Sonics have also shown interest in landing the rugged, 270-pound low-post menace. Each team is looking for a physical, low-post presence.

Jordan tried to move White this summer in exchange for Charles Oakley. The deal fell through just before the draft, but that hasn't stopped the Wizards from listening to various offers. Jordan doesn't have a particular disagreement with White, but would just like to clear more cap space next year. White's contract doesn't run out until the 2004-05 season.

Jordan is looking for players in the last year of their contracts as well as draft picks in return for White. If he can get rid of White, he can get nearly $15 million under the cap to pursue next year's free agents. Even if Jordan does find a taker, he'll have to wait until mid September to trade White, who is a full base year player until then, making his salary almost untradeable.

According to the source, Jordan traded for rookie Brendan Haywood to shore up the Wizards' front line in anticipation of shipping White off sometime this season.

The biggest question is, what is Jordan going to do with all of that cap space? With Vince Carter, Paul Pierce and Dirk Nowitzki under long term extensions, there won't be much left in the 2002 free-agent market.

Insider has learned that Jordan's main target will likely be Sonics free agent Rashard Lewis. The Sonics may have something to say about that. They're building their whole team around him, but Jordan would have created enough cap spaces to land Lewis straight up. Combine him with an almost sure lottery pick this year (Jordan loves Duke point guard Jason Williams) and you have the makings of a young, dynamic basketball team.

First off, Andrew thanks for the article.

Now for Caseload's analysis:

I'm sure Indiana is also intrigued by getting Jahidi and having a frontcourt of Jermaine and Jahidi, Double J's, so their frontcourt would be better. They could snag Jahidi for Al Harrington and/or Travis Best w/ picks.

Jahidi has been on the block for some time now, it's a wonder why no one has picked him up. The Mavs always want all the big guys they can get... but where would Jahidi fit in over there? I know they lost Booth, but they have Ruben W. coming into the fold, and they have some other big guns around, i.e. Gary Trent and lil' Rodman, aka Donnell Harvey (our pick from last year that the Mavs stole from us). In addition to Juwan Coward at the 4. Crowded frontcourt? Sure enough.

The Rockets currently have enough capspace to handle signing a Jahidi White clone, Marc Jackson of Golden State outright, which they were supposedly going to do once Hakeem packed his bags for the great white north. (no, not oklahoma; the dream is playing in toronto come fall.) Why would the rockets want to trade their current roster players when they can outright sign a duplicate player? Don't forget that Jahidi White is a 6'9" foul prone center.

Now the real deal question is - What is Jordan going to do with all that capspace he seems to be stockpiling. Hmmm. A former Washington Wizard by the first name Rasheed has an early out after next season. Who is going to be looking to get max money, and return from the Eastern Conference... you think if Jordan makes a return that he'd like to have a former Tar Hell, I meant Heel, who played Center on his squad? This Rashard Lewis stuff is just a pure smoke screen, like when Jordan was saying earlier this year that he'd draft Rodney White, and even earlier that he'd go after Brian Scalbrine of USC (who went in the 2nd round). Jordan, please, you might be a Wizard now, but we've caught on to your tricks Mike.

PS - ESPN INsider guys - how is Jordan going to score Dukie PG, J-Will Part Deux, if he makes his comeback? The Wiz can't be a lotto team and play in the playoffs the same year. Think guys, before you write.

If Jordan were to try and have his team tank games so he could stockpile his draft picks, what would he hope to transform his team into? Clippers East? I don't think that's in his game plan.

I'd love to make a push for him, but i'm not sure who we could really give up. I'm also not sure what the Wizards are looking for. I'm clueless on this one.

This would be a great trade!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been saying this for the last two years. JWhite is one of few true centers! I mean he doesn't really have any offense besides around the boards but that's exactly what we would need rom him. He's sooo huge (remember what he did to Camby whenever we played the Wizards) with the proper grooming, there would be absolutely no center in the East that could hold him - and he would certainly be competition for Shaq. I mean if you think about it, besides JWhite, what other center can you think of that has that type of size in the NBA? No one. We have to think in terms of advancing to the Finals. You can have the best perimeter players (AIverson), but if you don't have a man to body up to Shaq, it's over. I think JWhite has the best chance of defending Shaq out of all of the centers in the league. With the proper training and development, I think this guy could really give Shaq a run for his money. If the Knicks are smart they will do everything in their power to snatch this guy up. Even if it means giving up one of our good players (Rice, LJ, etc.).
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

I wouldn't be surprised if Jordan really wanted J-Will, that he would trade Kwame and their pick next year to get him. That is, unless Kwame has a stand out year.

True, but I'm not sure that J-Will could lead a team to a championship. when is the last time a PG did that? J-Will might be nice, but he's no Bad Boy Piston (Thomas). Heck, he's not even Iverson, who is a short 2 guard. Jordan should stick with Kwame, who could be a money player like KG.

I've been saying this forever. Oh, and who else has the type of size that Jahidi does? Marc Jackson, of GS. He has the weight too, i'm just not sure how much of it is muscle. The problem that both Jahidi and Marc Jax have is that they are undersized as Centers, 6'9" and 6'10" respectively, while Shaq is over 7 foot, so they are giving up 3+ inches on Shaq. But who cares, Zo Mourning is 6'10", and he still lays down the law, or at least he used to before this kidney disease.

So who would we trade for him? Harrington? Maybe a point guard like Ward or Jackson? If we did that it could allow us to sign another new york native Rod Strickland who apparently is interested in a return to the Knicks according to the nypost. Just a thought.

LJ or Rice should be gone already for Jahidi. But the salaries don't come close to matching. Jordan wouldn't mind getting Rice. but this would have to be a 3 or 4 team deal... I could see Dallas and the Raptors getting in on this. Plus the deal wont happen until mid-september, b/c of base year player issues w/ Jahidi.

By the way, Andrew, what do you think about my prediction that Jordan is clearing cap for a Portland player by the first name Rasheed?

Ward of "Action" Jackson can both go, I say we bring in Rod Strickland and Shammond. I see the newspaper headlines already "Changing of the Guard"

Well it seems like Rasheed is the only allstar caliber player that will be available next year with the early signings of Pierce, Carter, and Dirk. It makes sense.

I've always liked Jahidi. He's a big body that can rebound. He doesn't have to score for us and would be a welcomed addition. He give us a presence we haven't had since Oak left n he can make up for his ht. w/ his size. Although I rather deal Spoon for him I'd give them Harrington n Ward or a pick. Keep on bringing those G-Town boyz to NY.

I always liked White as well, but didn't he take a step backwards last year. I remember seein him on the bench alot of games. Was he injured much, or just in the dog house?

He was injured for a while. Then Rod Strick had him skip a few games so he'd have company to rest his sore hammies. But the funniest was the game when Jahidi got kicked in the junk and rolled around on the floor in pain for 5 minutes straight, they had to cut to two commercial breaks in a row!

Okay, a quick retraction (and why teams would want to get Jahidi instead of signing his clone, Marc Jackson):

The reason why no team can really get Marc Jackson is because he is a restricted free agent, and the most over the cap teams (including GS) can offer him is $4.5 million. The thing is, if any team offers him their $4.5 million, GS can match it, and thus retain him. Since no under the cap teams want him, he basically has to return to GS for whatever they offer him. If GS were wise, they'd give him a multiyear deal starting at around 2.5 million. Whatever they offer him, they are bidding against themselves, as Marc Jax has no real suitors, who can pry M. Jax away from GS via free-agency.

Therefore, Jahidi is an attractive option because he can be obtained via a simple trade, without any bidding and retention issues associated w/ Marc Jax.

Fact of the matter probably is we don't have any more trades brewing and the frontcourt is set. What we need to do is establish Felton Spencer "for hire" as Camby's set back up, with 5-10 minutes a night at Center, with Thomas playing at PF, with Harrington/Spoon coming in for some minutes along the way. LJ needs to be our defensive specialist against 3's like KG, and 4's like Duncan and 'Sheed. We need to send Eric Chenowith and Mike Wright overseas and pull a DeMarco Johnson on them, and sign Maceo Baston to be our rookie for this year.

I'd be happy with a Felton Spenser like player that got 10 minutes per game at the center position. No need to trade for a guy earning a ton of $$ who will only be unhappy playing in the reserve role and not getting the amount of minutes he expects.

We just need Spencer to get a consistent 10 min per game so if he is called on to play more, he would be prepared.

One G-Town boy the knicks should've swiped would have been Reuben Boumtje-Boumtje with that Eric Chenowith pick. That would've calmed down this Jahidi White talk
