100% That is the bottom line. I think if we are SMARTER this year in free agency--spend lesss --get more production--have a great draft--we can change the differential. We need an athletic upgrade and some scoring to reduce the load on Melo.

If we get the right PG and get more athletic, you are right, i think the results can be different. KP will have to take over the #1 option, while Melo will be an effective 2nd option.

But Melo can't play any other way. He wants the load like a 80s porn star. He wants to hold the ball. He's not going to pass. If we keep him, he's going to have to come off the bench. We need to establish a basketball unit. We can't do that if Melo holds the ball just to Chuck up his 25 shots a night.

I think the Key is WHO we have at PG. That is the spot that controls the action on the floor and Melo has only done well in terms of wins when he's had a floor general with him. When we had Kidd it made a difference.

Also just naturally as KP and others develop they will take on a more confident on court demeanor and not defer to Melo as much. IMO this is a natural process of players as they Mature and gain confidence. They won't pass up so many touches as they tend to do now.

We haven't had anyone good enough yet to become the #1 option. KP was almost there early in the season. My assumption is he will improve in the offseason and be there by the beginning of next year. Can Melo allow it? We will see. He always says the right things.

While this team hasn't been great offensively they haven't be a disaster either. This is with 2 PG's that can't shoot the 3 and aren't well rounded playmakers. The obvious area of improvement for this team will have to come from the PG spots. In addition to hopefully cutting Melo's shots per game and getting more high % scoring from others. This team can and should be more Efficient on Offense. Not to mention getting better defensively at PG as well.

The knicks have been running the triagnle more than ever before. There hasn't been a pg in that system to avg more than 5 assist.

Melo and rose are the only 2 players shinnig offensively in this system with any kind of consistancy, I doubt either of them goes anywhere.

I don't see it. We aren't close to competing vs Boston, Toronto or Cleveland over the next 3 years Melo will be effective in. And lets not forget Melo has 2 years left on his deal as well. We don't have the horses to expect anything within this window.

Its not just about that. Melo resisted DAntoni too. Only way he wants to play is the wad Woodson played. Clear it out, force-fed Melo ball. Surround him with alpha males and let it play out. Melo is gonna 33 not 28. We can't do that anymore

Melo will either get traded this summer or opt out next summer. I don't think it's a bad thing to keep him here, but I think the team could run a system that was better for the modern NBA and the talent on the roster.

We haven't had a problem scoring this year.

I believe the one thing that has killed us has been defensive rebounding. Maybe Noah gives that to us next year - doubt it.

Add someone like a Kris Humphries - a high motor defensive rebounding big. Willy has done that for us in spurts, but not enough.

2nd, add that wing/PG defensive specialist.

We have to build forward, and it's like hitting a moving target. Melo is, right now, a stationary shot, aimed a target that has already moved 3-4 years ahead of where we are today.

didnt MDA try that with Melo? If you think about this what were Phil's comments? That he holds the ball too long. What made Melo go from DadMelo to ball stopper Melo? Did Melo quit on Phil like he did MDA?

I would like to see Jeff coach a team where he doesnt have a star player with a NTC he has to cater to else he risk loosing the lockerroom.
