With the exception of Dampier and Baker, I guess IT is pretty much done with his tinkering this summer. Question is what sort of identity/style of play will a team with the following line up assume

PG: Starbury/Norris
SG: Houston/Crawford
SF: TT/Penny/Ariza/Anderson
PF: KT/Sweets/JYD
C: Nazr/Baker/Dampier???

Which suits us better, a run and gun offense or playing a delibarate slow paced run down the shot clock half court sets ala Van Gundy?

we don't have enough tough guys to play halfcourt all the time. We have depth so I guess we could try to run a bit more.

we won't be dallas (thanks god), but we'll be able to run from times to times. What i hope is that minutes will be sort of divided among our guardss, especially at the beginning of the season so that marb doesn't have to play too much and is not exhausted comes the playoffs.

Yeah, Dallas has had more talent and they played more defense than we have. And I would have taken Nash, Finley and Dirk over Marbury, Crawford and any big man we have. We'd be lucky to be as good as Dallas has been the last few years.
If it didn’t work in Phoenix with Nash and Stoutamire... it’s just not a winning formula. It’s an entertaining formula, but not a winning one. - Derek Harper talking about D'Antoni's System

Islesfan = Don Chaney.

I dont think we have a real identity until we start to win, and I dont mean playing just over .500, I mean winning 48 games and the division. I think we are capable of that but alot of things have to happen.

I do think we can be a tough half court team and a good rebounding team. When you look at KT, Sweetney, Baker, JYD, Nazr the one thing you do see is a group thats very strong on the boards.

Marbury does not = Starbury

So can we stop calling him that till he does something that warrants his nickname. As of now he is an All-Star, who needs to take the Knicks a round in the Playoffs before he earns the right to use that nickname.

Lets not forget the performance he put up in the first round in the second half of games he was non existant. A star would have found a way to score....I like Marbury hes a good player, but until he earns his nickname, lets just stick to Marbury

Jordan couldn't succeed in the playoffs without Pippen. Starbury shouldn't have been expected to succeed with a lineup of Penny, Shandon, Kurt, and Nazy, unless you hold Starbury to a higher standard than you hold Jordan to

We are not talking about success, clearly Jordan was up against much tougher comp, namely the Celtics, and Marbury doesn't compare to the Jordan that played for the Wizards

I was just highlighting that he was perhaps the worst player in the playoffs or close to it during the second half of games. He shot a horrible percentage and made terrible decisions, no one expected the Knicks to win, but game 4 was lost on Marbury's poor decision making in the forth.

I was merely saying he needs to do something warranting his self proclaimed star

The knicks wont have any identity that will be new till they have Allan Houston in the Lineup. If Allan Houston is in the lineup our identity is the same as it was for the last 2 years, "WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WE ARE DOING" offense.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

To say bad is to throw subjective mud at each other... MS's entitled to an opinion. Prove him wrong instead of calling the idea bad.

Hopefully Crawford will allow Houston the relief of getting uninjured in time for the season.

The Knicks have alot of skilled perimeter players....I would expect the Knicks to be a very exciting passing team....

KT is too non-athletic to really benifit from a fast paced offense.

TT, Houston, Nazr, Marbs, and Crawford on the court together does sound pretty exciting.....That team should take off from the time anyone touches the ball....

Knicks need to upgrade the 4 pronto.

That's one of the things I like about this trade. Wilkens can reduce Houston's minutes to prevent his knee from acting up. Hopefully this will help to keep him healthy.
